Why did you pick the Legion(s) you currently play?

and i dare say the best fighters in the imperium.

and we are gorgeous

and we are not complete douche bags to the people we are sworn to protect.

did i mention about how gorgeous we are?

I'm sorry, it's confusing. Are you saying you prefer Blood Angels or Emperor's Children? tongue.png

if you get it wrong you will be stabbed

Starting to sound like a Night Lord now. tongue.png

This escalated fast... Meanwhile I'm just sitting on my fortress rampart wearing golden yellow armor toting a bolter...

Because I am a Templar

also because the best way to punch Slips in the kidneys is when your in the same legion as him since he wont see it coming.

You're both my dauntless few!
Bladewolf is in denial about being apart of the brotherhood of yellow and a fist first. Templar second.

Let's be honest mate, there is a dark, secret corner of everyone's soul in which the Night Lords find a haven.

you damn well know that that isn't voluntary.

we all know that a night lord would never be able to stop at a mere stabbing

My hands-down favorite is the Imperial Fists because of their commitment to duty at any cost. The Sons of Dorn are honorable, righteous, and determined. Oh, and because after a full company of DA Ravenwing, I will slit my own throat if I ever have to paint black again.

I started with Iron Warriors back in the pre betrayal at calth days. I had abit of spare cash each month so I was buying a unit of mk II/III every now and again. I chose The IW as they are my 40k legion and I can paint metal infantry and chevrons all day.

Hard experience taught me, don't pick a paint scheme that's difficult to do, so that ruled out legions like white scars, fists etc

When BaC came with its glorious mkIV kits I needed a new legion, as I didn't want to break the older mk theme of my Iron Warriors.

So I settled on Night Lords after failing to paint the green of the Sons of Horus (before FW released the paint) the books Lord of Night and ADB night Lord series were an inspiration. I had a large bits box of skulls, bones and other nick-nacks and found a paint scheme that suited my average skills.

Next came the rules and army composition, luckily I wanted an infantry heavy force, which suited the Night Lords Terror Assault RoW, so two boxes of calth latter and a Forge World order of Volkites I was ready to go. Now after the updated legion rules and faq Night Lords are a top tier legion.

you realise that they have black trim right?

Raven Guard. Partly because I have 40K Ravens. Mainly because I like the background for the Legion and, when I read the rules for 30K Ravens, I realised I could play them on the tabletop in a fluffy way and that sealed the deal for me.

I was originally going to go for Imperial Fists to tie in with my 40k Crimson Fists army, but decided not to because if I used them in 40k they would be no different.

I was already leaning towards Salamanders when the Firedrake models got previewed, at which point I was sold. I'm up to 5000 points now which is enough for the time being.

I am currently prototyping some Thousand Sons, because I wanted a traitor legion, love the colour scheme, hope the rules will be fun and because there is scope to run them in a variety of ways in 40k too.

I went through it logically. Didn't want to paint black or white, so that ruled out some. Didn't want a Primary who had been slain, so that ruled out others. Discounted those legions with Primary models I didn't like. Only had a few left, so went with £. I had tons of Space Wolf bits to kitbashing my Calth set. Never looked back. Now Russ is coming too and I was soooo pleased the model looks good. Might have been a deal breaker otherwise...

Blackshields while not a legion are for me what got me into heresy. They for me they come across as lost soldiers that must do what is required to survive and the backstories created by forgeworld made me want to make my own.

(Also I can't paint well and black is easy)

Word bearers

Why? We are the corruptors of souls.

From a gaming point of view I wanted something entirely unique not just another legion with named terminators. Things have worked out nicely over the years as wb remained very unique with each book.

For me it was the word bearer's

I've always had a thing about the supernatural the occult and witch craft so it seemed like a natural fit for me. Plus i enjoy writing my own fluff which fits well with the word bearers

I chose my main army, Death Guard, because I played a Chaos version in 40K. My first idea was to create sort of a mirror image, portraying some of my characters and even rank & file as they were pre-Nurgle, but the idea went out the window when I lost interest in 40K (after 15 years sad.png ) and decided to solely invest in 30K. I'm actually really happy I made the switch as well, I think it's a lot easier to connect with the army and sort of drive my own little narrative when they AREN'T superhuman zombies.

As for my Word Bearers? Oddly enough, because I absolutely hate the Legion. I hate zealots. I abhor the XVIIth Legion due to their pathetic reasons for falling to Chaos. I hate that they corrupted Horus, and I absolutely LOATHE Erebus and Kor Phaeron. So what better thing to do with that hate than to channel it into an army? laugh.png I love the idea of playing guys that have no qualms with being evil. They're the worst. The army is portrayed as slightly after Calth and they're already corrupted fanatics well on their way to possession, daemonhood, and just general debauchery all in the name of the Eightfold Path.

Imperial Fists because Crimson Fists and Templars are my 40k armies. Because I'm an Eternal Crusader. Because Sigismund, especially at Terra and Mars, pwning Chaos Champions left and right. Because Alexis Polux at Phall, pwning Perturabo himself and making Curze look like a joke at the lighthouse. Because Pedro Kantor and Rynn. It was the only choice.

At least until they release the Sanguinius model.

I don't play, just collect and paint (and not enough of that, either, thanks to ADHD), but the two Legions I'm committed to are actually based on the forces I like from 40K.

Iron Hands - My 40K Space Marines are Sons of Medusa, because I really like the Adeptus Mechanicus ties of the Iron Hands and their successors but I've also got a degree in (among other things) religious studies, so the "forgiven heresy" aspect of the Sons of Medusa is intriguing. Green is also one of my favourite colours, although I choose to paint my Sons of Medusa in a darker, richer green than the official version seen in Imperial Armour and other sources, and I've worked up a dark-metal-with-a-green-sheen scheme I'm going to use for my Iron Hands.

I also quite like the bionic aspect of the Legion both from a flavour and a modelling point of view.

Thousand Sons - When it comes to Chaos, I've been most interested in Tzeentch since the earliest days of my interest in the hobby, starting with Fantasy Battles in the early Nineties; I've also been a fan of mythology since childhood, so the Egyptian aesthetic of the 40K Thousand Sons is appealing.

The 30K version also has a really interesting reason for their fall from grace, since they will obviously loom large when it comes to Chaos in 40K but they're basically the last of the Legions to fall, and only because Magnus wanted to help. I think not only are the Thousand Sons cool in and of themselves, but also it will be interesting to see how the series develops them as they fall (which is true of all the Traitor Legions, really).

Alpha Legion for both Legion (started me on the path) and the description in Extermination that shows they, above any other legion, value individual thought and initiative as part of a group objective. Removing the head, as it were, just doesn't work against the XXth.

I had (past tense) a successor chapter of the VII in 40k; after I painted up Calth, friends strongly encouraged me to make a full switch to Alpha Legion.

Imperial Fists because I enjoy Space Marine gun lines and boarding actions. Plus I hate myself enough to try and paint yellow upon a hundred plus miniatures.

Emperor's Children because my friend decided to give me his entire unbuilt collection, so on the off chance he ever comes back from wandering aimlessly, he'll have an army he can play.

Death Guard because... well, I'd never collected them before, and I remember an old friend telling me how his nurgle Chaos Terminators were. That and the Deathshroud sold them to me, as well as getting to try something new.

Future Thousand Sons because... well, see Slipstreams comment about the Fists. The Thousand Sons really just CLICK with me. I don't know what it is, if it's just I have a love for the psychic side of things, the Egyptian theming, the idea of a legion of Scholar warriors or the tragedy of being a legion of Icarus that got too close. If possible I will be going for a terminator focused Legion army with them, whereas my Deathguard are merely foot sloggers

The Imperial Fist Legion, masters of siege and boarding actions clicked with me.

Now to blasphemy here, Solar Auxilia, because they look cool, I liked the fluff on them, they are pretty resilient and have lots of heavy vehicles to play with as well as not being Space Marines. I like the thought of well trained mortals that aren't just cannon fodder.
