Why did you pick the Legion(s) you currently play?

I spent some time as a military engineer and always connected with the HH Iron Warrior story. I decided even though I had about 8k of Necrons I was ready to paint silver once again and build the legion that I was always meant to play.

Had to put a mythical bend to it.

Second edition I played Iron Warriors so it is natural for me to revisit them, I like that they are victims of circumstance unlike the other Legions that threw their lot in with chaos. I find the Iron Warriors, Thousand Sons and Night Lords to be the most tragic of the Legions and something in that appeals to me.

My choice was only ever going to be among the "traitor" legions, since for the longest time i've been playing CSM. But in the end my choice was with the Word bearers, because i am a huge fan of Lorgar. But what made me do the final decision was because after reading through a pile of Horus Heresy books i found that the story of Word Bearers legion came to reflect my own history in the hobby, as i started as a fanatic loyalist through SM/GK/Daemon Hunters armies. But a day came that changed all that as my friend wanted to get rid of his CSM army so i agreed to give the heretics a new home.

After months of absorbing chaos literature to find inspiration to remake the pile of CSM more fitting to my tastes, something dark crept into my heart. I started painting Black Legionaires and reading more and more HH books and not too long until i cast out the loyalist elements of my miniature collection into the warp (my friends closet).

Just like the Lorgars legion, my eyes were opened to the truth that service to the primordial truth was the only path available. So now in my heart burns only the passion and zeal to spread the Word of Lorgar to the entire galaxy (my local gaming group). Word Bearers, is the only legion for me and i love everything about them. How they make the sentiment "faith can move mountains" a reality in the form of starting the great rebellion known as Horus Heresy. No other legion so certain of their direction purpose as the bearers of the Word.

"Faith is the soul of any army; be it vested in primitive religion or enlightened truth. It makes even the least soldier mighty, the craven is remade worthy and through its balm any hardship may be endured. Faith ennobles all of the worlds the soldier undertakes be they so base or vile, and imports to them the golden spark of transcendent purpose." - Lorgar Aurelian

Alpha Legion for me, loyalist, proud and quietly capable. Flat teal and off white.

I thought most about painting the colours, knowing my methods and what'll work for me. I'd love some clean Death Guard, but that's not the point. I'd like to try Imperial Fists but I can't face the yellow as a brush painter. Raven Guard fluff fits the bill but I find black armour dull. Salamanders have appealing good-guy fluff and nice colours, but oh I dislike the all the flames. I might have gone Sons of Hours but couldn't get the green I wanted.

So the XX, but it'll probably turn into a rainbow Shattered Legion as I end up adding squads of all the above.

My first army is SoH first company with Horus. It's all terminators and tanks plus contemptor dreads in Dreadclaws plus some air support. I chose them because this was the first book and I really like the Justerain even though they were a big point sink at the time plus Horus is one of my favorite Primarchs.

My second army is Imperial Fists which is what I'm currently playing now. I have always wanted to play Imperial Fists and Sigismund... The army has a heavy Templar theme. Imperial Fists have some good special units and good rules overall.

Loyalist Emperor's Children since they're the true sons of old Europa and one of the most tragic legions. Had the calamity not befallen them and crippled the Legion in the early years of the crusade, their story would have been so different. They were basically Ultramarines on steroids with a roman noble color scheme and a cool Legion symbol. Also, they're one of the few legions that seemed to be better off without their Primarch, and that is quite interesting.

Then Space Wolves since it was my first army and their style is so different from a gaming and fluff perspective to the IIIrd.
