Here will be the beginnings of my Death Guard 30 and 40k loyalist blog. I'll be updating list plans, competition plans and project updates.

My goal is the achieve an 1850pt army by the end of this year, fully oiled and functional for war.

I will be using a mixture of 40k and 30k parts. I am by no means a professional painter nor hobbyist. I will be doing my best to convert this army into something very unique and very mine.

Please post criticism and ideas that might help me.

I am starting this thread today as I had some spare time to get online, but in the following days I will do some updates of my models and we can get this project underway!

For Mortarion!

Hardly the introductory post but here are some bases I just finished up!

Trying out rust and earth pigments for the first time. Interesting stuff.. I feel like I could go completely overboard on this stuff!

Any suggestions for rim color? It's black at the moment but I was considering a very dark brown might help ignite it a bit more.

Death Guard secondary color. What do you'll think look best for Death Guard? I've seen them both both a dark and a light, limish green color. According to Forgeworld they suggest a 50/50 mix of the both Casstellan Green and Elysian Green.

Deciding on one or the other, or a mixture of the two.

Thoughts or suggestions?

While I prefer my accents to be a nice, cool shade of bronze/brass, I think either the castellan green or a mix of 2:1 castellan green and elysian might look good. biggrin.png

I like those bases as well- they're full of detail, but not too much so. Did you make them yourself?

Ok, maybe I should rephrase "accents" to "secondary" color. The green of the Death Guard. But you're so right. I tried the castellan on it's own and it was too dark. The elysian green added to the mix will really make it pop but not too much.

You're right. I'll be all the accents in tarnished bronze.

The bases I did make myself, it's a mixture of some plastic bitz, cork and fine gravel. Then light dry brushed up the grey scale and weathered.

Something to brighten my day... another Death Guard army too look forward to thumbsup.gif Wishing you well with this one.

The Castellan by itself is definitely too dark in my eyes as I found out with an early test marine. Don't be afraid to try the Elysian mixed in as well as a highlight - since you can always ink-shade it back down and muddy it up with weathering (but repainting it lighter after you've already weathered will probably not be so easy).

I actually tried a little darkened silver for my 'trimmings' on the same test marine, wasn't that bad, but between the dark shoulderpad and boltgun highlights it didn't stand out so well. So yep, stick to brass / bronze trimmings.

Great bases btw, crisp and clean, they will compliment the DG for sure!

Oh... loyalists might want to stick to shouting "For Terra!" instead of Morty :)

Just a very small update of a test model progress. Waiting on the mailman to deliver some extra goods so I can begin painting this force.

I am going to go for a grimy, weathered kind of look. This so far is just the basic undercoats and all the details will follow shortly. The green will be lightened up, this is only one coat of castellan green. I am trying to use grime streak and rust streaks, but it's not quite working as I had planned. It's ok though, I don't want to get too caught up in the troops being perfect because my standout models will be my terminators, HQ and my armour.

Cheers.

Nice 'clean' start.  Yeah you can tell the green is just that bit too dark by itself.

How are the rust and grime streaks not working for you ?  I'll send you a PM to one of so-many vids out there, might be useful, might not :)

Eyes, whatever you like - most do red according to google.  I guess white armour doesn't lend itself to doing bright OSL blues n greens.

As for bolter casing, stick to black with boltgun trim etc.  I tried white and wasn't impressed.

Well here's my test marine out of the way. Really just trying to figure out how I was going to bring him all together. I'm pretty happy, I think he looks very Death Guard.

I went green with the lens, I think it looks and ties in very nicely.

It seems like such a silly update but I may as well show the brown strap I've painted. I really like it a lot. Also starting to add some squad markings.

Oh I wanted to mention that Forgeworld transfer sheets are just amazing and so micro set and sol. You gotta have that stuff!

Next on the list is some more troops and then some tartatos pattern terminators!

A lot of serious kit arrived today. Fellblade. Praetors. Legion MKIII and Tartaros Terminators.

So the terminator praetor looks so silly with that little sword and gun. Has anyone got an good ideas for a loadout? I was considering a thunder hammer and storm shield but I want to find a breacher shield. Hmm.

A slow and steady build coming along.

I just hate the pose of the terminator praetor. It's the best I could do. I wanted to give him a storm bolter and power sword/blade.

I think he will look great with all his color and transfers. :)

Looking good!  That chain wrap is awesome, but makes the weapon so ornate that the mini almost screams "give me a cloak, bells and more whistles as I'm not worthy!" :D

Will you count that as a combi-bolter in 30k with paragon blade ?
