Debate, Tycho => Dead Man Hand, and Profile Idea, Page 2

chapter approved. Second book of the astronomicon.

Compilation of CA articles for 3rd edition.

Page 24 describes fielding a full deathcompany army.

Page 25 describes tycho at hive tempestora.

3rd sentance.

"Tycho will fight as one of the death company and does not follow any of the independant character rules."

His rules are the same as in 3rd ed codex blood angels plus the rules for death company.

Followed by an awesome picture of tycho in deathcompany livery surrounded by other death company and orks...

Ah yes IP... Hopefully something so old would not incur the wrath of GW's lawyers, but I defer to the Moderati...

You can google a pdf of it. Here. I'm sending you a PM with the URL. Can't guarantee that it's virus free (this IS the internet, and I didn't put the thing there), but I've used it a good amount, and my computer hasn't melted yet.

EDIT: Bonus points 'cause that book has the stopgap 3E SoB 'dex for the time before Codex: Witch Hunters

Dang, I hope I didn't just incur the wrath of the Mods . . .

You have my thanks Brother!

I just hope that I didn't violate the forum rules . . .

I picked up my copy of that book (and the next one) in awesome condition for $5 apiece! Amazing purchases if you ask me.

Yeah I've had that book since it was released. Lots of cool stuff in it.. check out the VDR section...

What's vdr? I picked mine up when I decided to play 3E. It's lots of casual fun

Unfortunately, I wouldn't have been old enough to really comprehend them when they came out.

Vehicle design rules. Mostly broken with blood angels who could disembark and charge from any vehicle. Could make a fast rhino equivalent for about 50pts, allowing a 24" transport move, 2" disembark, 6" charge.

The"all BLACK RAGE" alternate BA army list came out a while before armageddon, in the uk, I think. It was a side thing that Gav Thorpe wrote, all models cost 25% more but gain +1 attack and feel no pain.

My thoughts on Tycho is that he's one of the earliest and well known of the Blood Angel hero types, and thus he needs to remain in the Codex going forward. Tycho does need to be given a little boost that fits his fluff, his history, and makes him stand out as a hero of the chapter, and within the rules makes him a captain that is worth taking again.

In before Tycho is the next Sanguinor laugh.png

But no, maybe even just a cool mix of Rending and Armourbane on his hand?

Make him focus on just dishing out a LOAD of attacks and gives him a nice Tank-Busting niche.

Or maybe something like a 6 to wound also causes an additional wound too?

FYI, on a lark I decided to write the customer service team at GW to see what they say about it:

Hi,

Thanks for writing into us. Unfortunately, I don't know what issue that conversion featured in. I had the oldest White Dwarf archive on the team, but I lost over a decade's worth due to water damage a few years back (flooded storage unit).

I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

I am making it my official quest to solve this mystery!

Edit: I just found this on "http://www.forsenergy.com/d110cae10d421875.html":

"Some fans believe he survived to fight on with the Blood Angels, given the honour of piloting a Dreadnought, although the "Tycho Dreadnought" conversion featured on the GW Website was a non-canonical conversion project made for an employee's personal army, and not an official part of the background."

So maybe it was actually a web article, not a White Dwarf.

FYI, on a lark I decided to write the customer service team at GW to see what they say about it:

As an archivist-in-training, this caused me physical pain to read

You know, really looking at Tycho, just a simple addition of rending on his attacks would really do it for me.

Especially Tycho the lost, guy would be a pretty good monster.

4 Base + 2 Rage + D3 Rampage.

Quickening that dude for some serious stuff.

Yes, it would take very little indeed to make him acceptable again. Lots of attacks and rending is cool. maybe the Dead mans hand counts as a power mace? This makes him S6 AP4 in combat, and capable of punching tanks to death.

I would consider another approach - making him a shooty hero version.

Remove one use only form melta, make range 24, give back special issue ammunition.

So he become a nice little guy that shoot's

Give him a boost that makes steruard objective secure - you'll pick up not just him but a solid veteran force.

I would really consider taking him - I reeeeally need objective secure in my army of flesh tearers detachment

I like that idea, Omega. Maybe keep two profiles for the sake of it. A sternguard themed like you mentioned and then a DC version that loses the specialist ammo, a point of BS, and gains rage plus rending (or something else). Thinking of other than ap value stuff, what about concussive, strikedown, hammer of wrath? Small situational things probably, but also fun and fluffy.

"Tycho hurls himself bodily into the enemy on the charge, slamming into them in an attempt to bring them to the ground before pummeling them." On a turn in which Tycho charges and issues or accepts a challenge, the enemy must pass a strength or be reduced to WS1 and I1 for remainder of your turn.

Well, there have been quite the tchat around Tycho. Recently, i look upon the Dead Man Hand problematic with another view.

I now think that, the Dead Man Hand, like its name supposed, is more of a Fallen Tycho Benefits.

Also, i've been thinking How to improve the Classic Tycho, and here is the result :

gallery_86314_12176_802974.png

Here is my "thinking" about the Classic Tycho :

1 - The Cost => I think that Rising or Fallen, the two Tycho profiles should have the same cost.

2 - Rising Star VS Fallen Star. Classic Tycho is supposed to be Dante Legitimate Heir, and so reflect the nobility of his exemple

3 - Heroic Bearing Warlord Trait => I think this one fit a "rising" Tycho, while the current is more of a "fallen" Tycho.

4 - It Will Not Die => Tycho embodies the Blood Angels virtue of selfless sacrifice, plus he is Master of Sacrifice. I think this rule, while not OP, fit the character.

5 - Noble Sacrifice => I got this idea from the recent Blood Angels Start Collecting Formation rule. As for the point N°4, i think such special rule, really fit the Character, and since it is a 1Turn per game, 12" Bubble of Feel No Pain, i think it isn't "That" OP.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that such profiles would be more adaptated to the "Rising" Tycho Description. While on the Other hand, the "Fallen" Tycho, is indeed more a Berserker in his Current profile.
