Trollbeard
So I was in my local gaming shop the other day and the owner mentioned that they have a small escalation type league going, starts a 750 and goes up to 1500 I think? Maybe 1250 can't remember off the top of my head. Anyways it have a few restrictions and what not, no formations, super heavies, GMC, or LoW. So I'm guessing a CAD is what I will be playing, just wondering how you play a CAD, as I've only ever played the NSF before. And at these smaller point levels would PAGK work better for more model count? Or is a standard LIB TDA and NDK list going to work just as well? I was thinking of taking a LIber sanctic LIB as my warlord and hoping for gate, with another LIB rolling telepathy or divination. Anyways any tips, thoughts or ado ice would be much appriciated! Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323314-starting-a-new-local-escalation-league/ Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
Nemesis Strikeforce isn't a formation, its a detachment. Just clarify with the owner if its an issue for you to use Nemesis Strikeforce. If you can't use Nemesis Strikeforce, I'd just focus on cramming as many Dreadknights into your list as possible. So most likely 1 at 750, 2 at 1500, 3 after that. PAGK suck, there isn't any way around that issue. Terminators actually work better in lower point games, due to less AP2 spam. Lore choice is a game by game decision. Pick the lore that best suits the matchup. Don't forget we also get the new Marine Disciplines (Fulmination, Geomancy, Technomancy and Librarius). Trollbeard
Hmm I that's cool about the NSF I didn't realize it was a detachment! Thanks for the advice darius! SCOTT_FRANCIS
I recntly played my son ina 500 point game. An NDK and a squad of Termies is really powerful in small games. It shocked me just how powerful a Dreadknight cn be. Trollbeard
Yeah I'm debating whether to fully kit the NDK or slowly build up the upgrades as the league progresses. And would a comma relay be beneficial at lower point games?? duz_
I originally started my GKs as a small allied force for my IG in a local store 1000pt league. Even at that level a bare bones Linby, 5 GKTs with swords and NDK with fists and HIncinerator DS into their lines would make a massive impact. Trollbeard
So, after talking to the owner of the store, we can only use a CAD. That being said, would a list similar to a NSF work fine? I was thinking of trying for gate and having my termies on the board turn one and Gating forward turn 1, with possible shunts right away as well from the NDK. duz_
Issue with a CAD is it becomes a lot more expensive to field units because you're having to field a 2nd troop unit. Strikes are relatively cheap but not particularly useful or resilient. GKTs are more useful but more expensive... and at the end of the day means less points for NDKs... I've been considering getting a 5 man strike squad to switch to a CAD for obsec and triple NDKs. I don't use reserves or DS that often so won't miss the NSF bonuses very much. I mainly used it to avoid the troops tax. Not sure how it will go but I plan on just hiding them towards the rear to hold objectives maybe give them a psycannon or incinerator not sure yet. Reclusiarch Darius
Yeah if you just wanna spam DK's (which is honestly the only thing CAD is good for), Strikes are better. I'd put them in Reserve and Deepstrike them with incinerators. They might do something, and if you're fortunate you'll avoid giving away First Blood too easily. On-table, they're too slow and outclassed by most other infantry now (just like Tactical Marines).
