Did 40k pattern special weapons/bolters exist heresy?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys so I'm trying to figure out what to pledge for ETL and I found that I can lot ash a lot of stuff to make models, however I've run into the small problem of being stuck with 40k pattern special weapons and bolters. Where these patterns of weapons around during the heresy or do they go the way of the MK 7?

I'd say that they probably did exist but in limited numbers just prior to the heresy, as experimental versions of pre existing weapons (eg. A flamer variant that is lighter but still packs the same amount of punch as the readily available version) or as a derivitive that was manufactured from another forgeworld. There's plenty of explanations for the use of 40k versions of weapons for use in 30k.

Hope this helps answer your question in part :)

They could also be lower quality weapons than the main ones used in the heresy.

After all, technology has declined post-Heresy, so weapons commonly used in 40k were more likely those patterns which were cheaper and easier to produce, but less preferable, whereas the more commonly heresy-era pattern weapons are of higher quality and were more readily available in the 31st Millenium.

It's my understanding that nearly all 40k weapons and equipment was initially deployed during the crusade or heresy. The reason 30k designs didn't survive as long is they were harder to produce and maintain, or sometimes the 40k versions were better (shock) representing the last positive technological advancement before the heresy ruined everything.
Also many of The preferred patterns were often on made on Mars rather than the spread out forgeworlds. When Mars revolted nearly all of their forges were destroyed, leading to lesser known forgeworlds having the newly preferred models.

I think in general almost all 40k stuff was around during the heresy, even stuff like MkVII Power Armour was developed during the Heresy. The only caution you should take is that if you use too much 40k stuff your army starts looking like a 40k army and you'll be missing out on the awesome 30k aesthetic (which for me is half the fun).
