Show me your Praetor Tribune (25/06/2016 FW/GW Exclusive)

Recommended Posts

Hey!!

I, like many of you it seems, was not originally a fan of the FW/GW exclusive Horus Heresy model, the Praetor Tribune. For me, it was the sculpt of the head and the paint job that put me off most, however seeing it unpainted convinced me that it was a nice model, and could be even better with a bit of conversion work or a better paint job (oh, and a head swap... Although up close it's not as bad and if painted well, could be better than the promotional photos made it look).

And so I ask and of you here at the B&C to post your Praetor Tribune model. Whether you have converted or just painted if differently, even if it is unfinished, please post as I would love to see how you have adapted this model to better suit your tastes and hopefully it will provide a bit of inspiration for anyone else who remains unsure about this model or how to 'improve' it.

I'm currently working on a conversion myself and will post a picture shortly...

Thanks!! I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with! smile.png

Word Bearers Chaplain in Tartaros Terminator Armour (WiP) - yes he is getting a two-handed Power Maul...

Sorry about the bad light, it looks much cooler in person but it doesn't come out as well with what little light I can muster at 10:30pm

Nice work. I was lucky enough to get two and plan on magnetising the pants off one and keeping one pure! Nice conversion work I can't tell if that's a different head or just without Mohawk!

I wasn't much of a fan of the model at first either, but now that I have it in person, and can switch that ugly head for something better, I'm liking the model a lot more.

Here's my conversion for an Iron Warriors Praetor/Centurion. I only switched the head out- the original for one of the IW ones. Looks a lot better in my opinion- reminds me of a Nordic Warrior or something along those lines.

I've opened and washed one of mine (I bought two) and though I haven't built it yet, and won't be able to for a while due to a lack of glue (which I'll be getting at some point in the next couple of weeks) I'm thinking about possible conversions I could do. Seriously considering swapping out that blade for a thunder hammer just because I don't really have a hammer Centurion or Praetor right now.

I didn't get one of these, and I really wasn't tempted to either, but you guys are doing an excellent job of convincing me of the model's merits, after all!

@ Apostle of the 30th Host: Hah, you can never go wrong with a huge, slightly frayed back banner like that! :)

@ Ninjaman: It's astonishing how that new head completely transforms the model and makes for a very strong new look. Very nice!

@ DarkApostle7: Love the horns and the flayed face! Definitely chaos-y enough! Looks like a pretty far gone Coryphaus to me ;)

Some great conversions here!

The tribune is, in my opinion, a nice model: head is a bit derpy and the weapon looks like it might have been different originally!

Got a few different parts all magnetised, hopefully going to sort out more ranged options in due course!

Thoughts?

Well I'm wanting to make a libby out of mine, got any ideas as to how to pull this off?

The glaive could work well if the blade is removed and a Libby staff added. Or the old empire wizard staff tops?

Well I was thinking the current option would suffice for a force weapon. Thoughts?

Yea definitely, hadn't thought of that! Head swap perhaps?

It was a pain to get the palatine blade head to fit. All of the back 1/3 is gone and the lowest 1mm of the faceplate was trimmed! If not magnetised it could've made to fit before glueing the chest plate.

Thank you everyone who has posted so far! Great to see how many different things can be done with the same model!

@Der-H - Cheers! It is a different head. The Word Bearers MKIV bare head. Just seen your guy, can't believe how many options you have haha! Was it hard to magnetize it all?

@Ninjaman - Nice! It's amazing how much difference a simple head swap can make. Looks much better!

@DarkApostle7 - Looks good mate! He definitely makes for a nice early Horus Heresy commander as he still has some Loyalist makings but the Chaos-y touches are creeping in as he adapts his armour. Although, it was not too hard to remove the Loyalist markings on mine if you wanted to do so.

@KrautScientist - Cheers! I'm using these as Vexillas in my army too.

@Perry - Very nice! Love the weapon and the cloak looks great!! Nice use of brass etch too. Can't wait to see him painted!

@Lord Commander Vulkus Dorn - Maybe add a book to him? Like I have done with my Word Bearer. Other than that, Librarians didn't really have much unique iconography in the Horus Heresy so he would just look like a standard Centurion to be honest. Maybe replace the head with the plastic 40K librarian head?

I see no reason why you couldn't just keep that weapon. Would make a perfectly adequate Force Sword.

Although, I would personally have no problem with you referring to it as a 'Force Glaive' and using the Force Axe rules - he only has one CCW so no extra attack which could simulate two-handed, whilst it looks like a weighty weapon and so the +1S AP2 would be appropriate as well as unwieldy. I have a couple of 40k Sorcerers who use 'Force Mauls' as Force Staves have exactly the same profiles as Power Mauls, but with Force added so I se no reason why anyone would mind.

I'm working on mine, but since there were a fair few people here, I would ask you a question. Do you think the primarch arms and pads are too small/too large for the Praetor, or just about right?

Those arms are way to big. Or to be more exactly: although the length could fit, the arm seems a bit to thin and the hand comicaly big. Looks awkward to me.

Lovely work. Really clean swaps. Looks like it was meant to be!

Thanks! I was surprised that it works so well. I tried a MKIII-Head at first, then an spare MKIV-Head and a bare head, but non really worked for me. This one give´s him more of a Deathshroud-kinda-vibe, I think.

The arm looks somehow out of place - too big, sadly.

Maybe too large but that could be lack of pad on the left. I use ultramarine invicarus pads on some characters and if one sided looks really off. What pad did you have in mind for the left shoulder?
