Process was:

black undercoat

watered down celestra grey (2 coats)

black wash

layer back the celestra grey

note: multiple layers, very watered down, leaving some of the darker areas from the wash in the deeper shadows and recesses

then super water down some white - this would honestly probably be better done with medium rather than water, but hindsight and all.

Anyway, I diluted the white till it was milk-like in consistency, practically a wash or glaze, very transparent.  Then I wiped most of it off the brush so it wouldn't run, and just kind of built up highlighted areas on the cape with repeated layers of that till I liked the result.

somewhere between 6 and 12 layers total, depending on how it was looking.

If I went too far anywhere, I went back in with watered down celestra to bring it back down a bit.

basically just pushing it back and forth until I liked the result. The actual process was somewhat messy, and in truth the cloaks themselves are messier in person than they appear in these pictures.

More progress on the apothecary. Still trying to get this finished today. Mostly just detail work left.

I've opted to leave most of the armor light grey instead of doing everything white, to allow for a bit of variation in the armor. Hopefully the owner is ok with it.

I did the tabbard with the same method as the Mor Deythans' capes, only diluting the white with lahmia medium this time instead of water. It worked much better, going on smoother, not needing to wipe as much off the brush, taking fewer layers, etc. While the result is still a bit messy, it's less messy than the capes were.

Finished the apothecary. I've got a couple more pictures, but I'm already running late for a thing, so I'll just post this one for now:

Lost about a week to illness, and just kind of being a general failure as a human being, but progress has started up again with the next apothecary:

It's actually a little more done than this, but the black wash is still drying.

The owner mentioned something about doing blue for the power weapons (which would include going back to update a couple of the ones I've already done).  I didn't do that at first for fear that too much color would spoil the otherwise very limited color scheme, based on past experiences with black legion, but honestly I think it should be fine.  The question then is how exactly to go about it, and what all to apply it to.

For this apothecary, I'm just going to do the hammer silver like I have been, and save experimentation for some test models afterwords, even if that means going back to re do a bit of this guy as well.

While I'm considering going back to do things over, I think the grav guns could get a bit more pop, too, but that's something I'll worry about later on.

30k era Raven Guard Legion Praevian, to go with the Castellax Battle Automata I painted a while back.

A friend converted the model for the owner as a gift, I’m glad to have the painting done on it so he can finally actually field it.  Took longer than I should have - I always do - but I think the result is alright.  I tried and failed to do a gear for the right pauldron, but it just wouldn’t come out right, so I painted over it and went with the easier-to-freehand astronomical symbol for the planet Mars.

Now I just have to paint four more of those pretty-but-pita battle robos to finish out the squad.
