b1soul
Vaults of Terra: The Carrion Throne by Chris Wraight https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...k-up3206281106 Inquisitor Erasmus and his acolyte Spinoza root out a shadowy conspiracy on Holy Terra itself, the capital world of the Imperium. In the hellish sprawl of Imperial Terra, Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Erasmus serves as a stalwart and vigilant protector, for even the Throneworld is not immune to the predations of its enemies. In the course of his Emperor-sworn duty, Erasmus becomes embroiled in a dark conspiracy, one that leads all the way to the halls of the Imperial Palace. As he plunges deeper in the shadowy underbelly of the many palace districts, his investigation attracts the attention of hidden forces, and soon Erasmus and his acolyte Spinoza are being hunted – by heretics, xenos, servants of the Dark Powers, or perhaps even rival elements of the Inquisition itself. They eventually discover a terrible truth, one that if allowed to get out could undermine the very fabric of the Imperium itself. Really excited about this...an Inquisition story...on Terra...by Wraight! Really excited about this...an Inquisition story...on Terra...by Wraight! Me too! Fwiw, I'll be interviewing Chris on the show next week for the Fantasy War of the Beard trilogy (ok, Vengeance for you pointy ears) but we're doing another section on his other works and I can pass any questions along to him. Can't promise answers for unreleased works, but, hey, why not? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323703-upcoming-inquisition-novel-by-wraight/#findComment-4435998 Share on other sites
Roomsky
A little disappointed it's not Vandire, but Chris can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. Even his much maligned Rebirth was on the good half of average IMO. Looking forward to it all the same. Taliesin
Hmm the link to goodreads doesn't work, I was hoping it might show a publication date. Sounds interesting anyway. Ah here it is: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vaults-Terra-Carrion-Chris-Wraight/dp/1784965081/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1467754215&sr=1-4 May 2017, 400 pages hardcover. Xisor
War of the Beard trilogy (ok, Vengeance for you pointy ears) Ooh, ask him how he found trying to navigate the changes to that series. (It was originally 6, alternating him & Kyme, but then dropped to two and a question mark, with Clint rounding it out. Three excellent books, but the changes to the schedule must have been challenging. ) Also, it was the War of Vengeance for the Dawi, the other name (*spits*) was for the pointy eared fools... --- Very keen to see this from him. Chris does a great turn of characters, plot and setting in close fusion. Themes are always well done, and fit neatly those first three. His Swords books (in the Empire omnibus 're-release' for the Total War release) are a masterpiece in that regard. An astonishingly boring main character who carries two exciting stories along at a fast, fun, funny pace, yet preserves a sense of horror without compromising other ideas? Excellently done. (Scars and The Path of Heaven + shorts do this very well too, but the Swords one are so less prominent.) If any of you've not read the Sword of books - do so! Quick! --- So, inquisition. It'll be the first since Czevak/Pariah? BNG1991
Conspiracies involving the Imperial Palace? I could think of a few possibilities: 1) Mankind was the hybrid of C'Tan experiment(ape with pariah-gene) and Eldar. 2) The Emperor did trade something from Chaos. 3) The Emperor is dead. 4) The Emperor actually hired xenos to do His bidding. 5) The Emperor became the Chaos God. (Not sure about that one, just some speculation from the Internet.) What do you think? b1soul
The Emperor has truly been dead for millenia and the Astronomican has been fueled merely by sacrificial psykers and the Imperial faith That would be ballsy...but would seem to contradict the Talon of Horus Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323703-upcoming-inquisition-novel-by-wraight/#findComment-4436307 Share on other sites
SteelPaladin
Super excited for this. Do you guys think Inquisitor Erasmus is named after the guy doing the Lord Inquisitor movie? b1soul
The 40K setting has so much potential. veterannoob
The 40K setting has so much potential. Terra alone could be an entire fantasy setting @Xisor, indeed, I refuse to call it anything other than War of the Beard - elvish civil rights have no place in this dawi's camp. *chugs Bugman's XXXXXX* @b1soul - Terra would be awesome to see and in just about any epoch before 25-ish M? But Unification, Great Crusade, Uh-oH following Siege, and so on. Servant of Dante
The 40K setting has so much potential. Terra alone could be an entire fantasy setting 40k is all the settings mashed together, and spread in various thicknesses across the galaxy, sprinkled with original material from GW. Mellow
Maybe the conspiracy is something to do with that piece of lore where some people want to turn the Golden Throne off because they believe He will resurrect? Grand Master Laertes
Maybe it has something to do with the malfunctioning of the golden throne part from the chronology of the rulebook? The malfunctioning that inspires some Techpriests to seek allies in Comorragh? It can be, and it would be amazing! veterannoob
Chris gave (once again) a great insightful interview. His 30/40K stuff, mostly on Path of Heaven, will go up first, likely. Plus we stay current coverage of The Beast Arises. But Chris's audio on Path of Heaven and 30/40K I recorded separately to in all likleyhood post several weeks before the War of the Beard.
