The Heroic warrior Kings of Ultramar - the most capable Legion in the Imperium. The 13th are trusted with any task and able to adapt and Triumph against any opposition. Witness their glory as they muster for war under the direct leadership of their Illustrious Primarch...

Aaanyways, it's about time I finished the whole force. I own more Legion models than what I'm showcasing here but I picked the following batch because it looks good and coherent.

Thanks for looking! :-)

So, I think I might have to start hating you now Ishagu...

I don't want to like these... I really don't want to like these; I'm an all-out Word Bearers player, I can't look at an Ultramarines army without booing and hissing (in Colchisian of course), let alone admire one...

But these are so pretty wub.png Hahaha!!

In all seriousness though, they look great mate!! I'm a big fan, as much as I don't want to admit that!

(Don't worry, it's not your fault really, I started reading Know No Fear the other day and have started to have quite a begrudging respect for Guilliman and the XIIIth. I like the way Dan Abnett writes them in that book, they are much more appealing to me, even as a sworn enemy haha - even enemies can admire and respect one another though so I'm pleased to see such a fantastic Ultramarines army!)

Apostle - Thank you very much. Ironically the Word Bearers are my second favourite Legion in 30k. The look, rules, models and Primarch are all incredibly fun. I started with SoH originally but that project is currently on hold.

Newtoncain - The army is actually 2k points inclusive of Guilliman. The various other characters to the right and the Contemptor aren't typically included but the rest of the models fit into a focused 2k list that is built to work well with the Legion specific rules and units.

Pheidias - Thank you for the kind words. I have a game scheduled tomorrow against Angron's World Eaters. Will take some pictures and share them here :-)

My brothers...

I was defeated! (possible some foul play involved)

I'll write up the bat rep in detail, and will post a few pics when I do so. I'm away at a wedding this weekend so will most likely be on Sunday. Was a really fun game and good experience :-)

That's alright! Oh wow! That's awesome! Yeah, 30k has really done a lot to improve my opinions on many of the original Legions to be honest. They have written them very well.

I was not a fan at all of 40k Ultramarines but 30k has made them one of my favourites. I quite like the Word Bearers/Ultramarines rivalry too. I often think it would be cool to see a few Ultramarines and Word Bearers players on here develop a friendly rivalry / inter-Legion banter while encouraging each other to build up their armies.

Anyway, back to your army, are you much of a fluff fan? And if so, have you set your army at a certain time or event? Are there backstories for characters etc.?

I like to do that for my own armies, so it's always nice to hear how the background has influenced other people's armies and how you have imagined your characters.

Ok, so I've had two battles with the 30k Ultras in the last week. Both over 2k. Unfortunately I can only give a very brief overview and share some pics.

The first one was against the Traitor World Eaters...

The Ultramarines deploy for battle. This is a simple kill point mission...

The World Eaters counter deploy... The army has an overwhelming amount of PA infantry all riding in Transports.

To cut a long story short, even though I thought I did everything right (destroyed the Spartan turn 1, took out transport after transport, vehicle after vehicle), I couldn't cause enough damage to the Angron death-star (supported by that annoying Apothecary who gives them all FNP 4+) and they ended up running around destroying everything.

Eventually even Guilliman was overwhelmed. His bodyguards and Dreadnought did enact a heavy toll on the traitors. The Primarch retreated to fight another day...

I lost the game 7 to 10 at the end of turn 5. No more time to continue unfortunately.

The second game was against a lovely Astra Militarum army, it was Maelstrom of War and it was played on some lovely terrain....

The armies deploy:

As the game progresses we both capture objectives around the table. From early on the Astra Militarum lead thanks to some lucky cards being drawn.

On turn 3 however, the Ultramarines inflict great damage on multiple units and destory transports and Wyverns en mass. The Tank Hunting Sicarans, backed up by Quad Mortars and a Deredeo cut through the Astra Militarum units like paper. The sheer numbers of the AM infantry still leaves a massive presence on the field.

Here is am image of the Devastation.

To make things worse for the AM, the Primarch joins the fray and cuts his way through unit after unit of Guardsmen, backed up by the Invectarus, a Chaplain and a Primus Medicae.

When it seems victory is assured, some much needed re-enforcements arrive. 3 Vendettas and a Castigator Knight arrive from reserve and start inflicting damage in return.

As the game winds down the AM are still leading in Maelstrom points... One of the Sicarans is destroyed, the other reduced to Snap Shots. The Deredeo had to move to a different position to gain cover from the Vendettas and Castigator.

After two turns of concentrated fire the Knight is brought down alongside two of the Vendettas.

Thankfully, at the end of turn 6 a lucky shot from a Sicaran is able to bring down the final Vendetta. Inside was the AM commander, and I'm able to secure 3 victory points from his death - giving me a narrow lead.

As the game ends the AM forces are too depleted to venture out for objectives against the pressing Ultramarines that continue to advance and mop up the stragglers.

The game ends in a 12 - 11 Victory for the Ultramarines!

Your army is very well done,a credit to the XIII indeed.cool.png

what i'm really interested in is the AM force you played against...that's a really nice simple and very distinctive army there...any chance you remember the base colour of that army?? it looks like a bone colour but which one? any guess would be welcome since you saw it in the flesh msn-wink.gif i think his pretty army nearly distracted you to a loss but the discipline of Mr G paid off in the end laugh.png

cheers Mithril

I love the infantry, but the vehicles look like they're not quite done as they have no where near the same amount of line highlights

There's reasons for that. A lot of my vehicles are old, and I painted the new ones to match.

I also don't particularly like the highlights as much on the tanks, the two tone blue gives them depth and I also use them for cross play with my 40k Ultras which are painted differently.

Its not that they don't have depth, just that they don't look finished due to how the highlights change the models appearance, but fair enough if you're using them cross army

honestly, his tabletop cross army vehicles would be comp quality for most if not all modellers...

i think we're so used to seeing over the top golden demon quality "don't touch my model's please" tongue.png paint jobs, that when we actually see someones "Tabletop Playing army" we

critic it a wee bit too much(honestly i'm not having a go at you personally SkimaskMohawk, just making a broad statement about modelling and painting).

most of us would love/enjoy to be on the other side of the table to forces like this... including the armies he played against too..

@mithrilforge

Couldn't agree more. ( and this is in no way aimed at Skimaskmohawk). Most armies on these boards, across all forums are pretty damn amazing. Far better than 70% of what I've seen across the table from me. Some armies are so good that I'd be too afraid to touch them, never mind play with them. From what I have gathered (and I've been a member since 2007), virtually everyone here loves the hobby side of the game and work to improve their painting/hobby skills.

I know that I do. I would love to be able to paint in a precise, crisp way but I'm too messy for that. However, I'm happy with how I've improved over 15 years of the hobby.

Ishagu's army is fantastic (not that anyone is saying otherwise).

One of the things I love about this site is that people are pretty supportive over each other's work because, like in life, we are all at different levels but (God) Emperor loves a trier.
