Hello B&C

Hi all,

I'm going to open by sounding like a bit of a hipster. I'm a Black Library author, "but you've probably never heard of me." I'm pretty new to the scene. My biggest claim to fame just now is that I'm the author of the sequel to Curse of the Wulfen, the Legacy of Russ, a series that may be causing various levels of fear/rage depending on who you're backing and your opinion on setting plot progression. I've also got a Carcharodons Astra novel, Red Tithe, hitting the shelves around January which was great fun to write. Was totally going to post top-secret info in that big Carcharodons "origins" debate thread from years back but it's been locked down, what a shame msn-wink.gif

As far as the wider hobby is concerned I've got a Guard army, though admittedly I'm more of a Fantasy kinda guy (Chaos, Skaven and Vampire Counts). Don't worry about my Space Marine credentials though, every single one of the four novels I've written so far (three have yet to be released) have been about the Adeptus Astartes.

If any of my editors are reading this, please let me write about the Astra Militarum!

Cheers,

Robbie

Hail and welcome to the forums, brother! My advice to you is to keep in mind that some of the fraters here are a little... feisty with known authors. Most of us are fairly cool but there's always the odd one or two (or five). ^_^

Anyway, feel free to ask any questions and don't forget to check the site's rules for posting

Yours will be the first Black Library novel I bother reading.

On the one hand, I'm honoured, on the other, a bit intimidated! I hope it lives up to expectations!

It might be interesting to pick up a book when I know I can get a hold of the author . . .

Also, welcome to the B&C, although I don't really feel I'm entitled to welcome you.

Oh, what the heck. Like many of the people on this forum, I've tried my hand at writing. I'm sure you're familiar with the Fan Fiction subforum near the bottom of the homepage. It'd be interesting to have the opinion of a published 40K author.

I really am trying my best not to specifically point to my own stories. I don't want to be one of those 1 or 2 (or 5) people Olis mentioned.

Of course you're entitled to welcome someone, why wouldn't you be? Just forget that Rob writes for BL, same as you should forget I'm a mod when chatting normally on the B&C for example. We all post as equals, it's a fundamental part of how the B&C operates.

I'm sure Rob will have things to say once he has settled in and got his armies going, but in such a large and busy place as the B&C perhaps the wiser course of action would be to wait to see if help is offered msn-wink.gif

But of course! I wasn't referring to his authorship when I said "not entitled," I guess I just still think of myself as a new member who isn't fully part of the community yet.

Oh, and seeing as you're a Mod, click this, if you please!

I dunno. Being a Frater for a year-and-a-half means you probably can't be described as "new" anymore. tongue.png

I know. And with over 700 posts (I think I hit that today). It's a psychological thing. I'll try working on it.

Oh don't worry, I "came up through the ranks" via fan fiction actually, I wrote a lot on the old Black Library forums (when they still existed) and the two fan-made "Boltholes" before I eventually got my break. I'll have a glance through, but I'm afraid I'll have to be a bit of a party pooper as well - if I read all the stories people sent to me I don't think I'd ever get any writing done! This is also the busiest time of year, I've got a novel and two short stories from Black Library, as well as my ongoing PhD at University. Having said all that, now that I'm here on B&C I'm not going anywhere!

Well said, I'm still a fan and a hobbyist at heart.

If you think of yourself as new then think how I feel! biggrin.png

Lol. I started feeling more at home once I really got into the forum of my army (sisters, in this case). I read everything that's posted there (or at least glance at it), and reply to things often. Some forums have much higher levels of activity, where viewing everything might not be feasible. just find your group within the forum, I guess.

As you are a writer, I would think that the Liber would be happy to have you around . . . although I only have a basic sense of what they do in there.

Aye, us Liberites tend to be a little more of a literary lot, on average, than the general population of B&C. That said, I don't doubt many of us like to dabble in fiction. Comes with the hobby-territory, I'd wager. ^_^

The idea of an actual BL author taking the step down into the B&C's basement would be a boon beyond measure, but it also kind of feels like asking a favorite band if they've heard my mixtape.

It's great to see you here, RobMac. Some of the best posts I've seen on this site have been from people giving an inside view of the company we're all helplessly enslaved to, and the setting we're all equally helplessly enthralled with.

Thanks, I've been made to feel very welcome, and as I've said elsewhere, I've only been doing this gig for a year, and prior to that I was a hobbyist for sixteen. I very much still consider myself one of the fans, first and foremost!
