I know I'm not on this forum as El'Sycorax, but it's easier to keep things all together, and I made this account a long time ago.

This is over on Heresy30k, but thought I'd post it up here.

So, here's my First Legion. Decided to run it as a Pride of the Legion list, seemed thematically appropriate.

That's all right now. ATM I'm working on a Knight to run alongside them, and after that it'll be adding more armour to them, make them a proper army.

But as you say it's a pride list so they're all Veterans!

Indeed.

Anyway, it's up to personal taste.

Here's the fact: robes were present, as a tradition inherited from the Order.

With that said, I'd go for a "Black Knights in space" theme, rather than the monastic one that a cape-spam somewhat suggests.

Otherwise, they'd be just 40k Dark Angels painted black, and it's not what I'm aiming at (and expect from others) when doing 30k Angels.

I'd keep capes for relevant individuals, sporting them for honorary/hierarchical reasons.

They should be a mark of distinction, not a veterans' club t-shirt.

Obviously, your army, your choices.

I cannot -and never would- tell you what to do.

I can only give some feedback

Ps: I agree that they look good, especially the banner and the tanks.

Right, first off, cheers for the kind words guys.

 

Second, regarding robes, which I did realise people would have reservations about.

They are mentioned in the books, but frankly, if I hadn't liked what the books said, would've done my own thing.

I like robes, but not a major factor.

They serve rather nicely to distinguish them from my mates Iron Warriors.

 

Big thing though, came from Descent of Angels. Midris, and later the Lion, talk about how the greater cause by far, is the Great Crusade beyond anything else. The language they use evokes the idea of subsuming the individual. It also (IMHO, too much english class clearly) presented the idea that the surplices were worn in some cases as a symbolic shrouding of identity, a visual representation of sacrifice.

 

I liked the imagery. I rolled with it.

Very nice looking minis. You did a great job on the scratchbuilt rhino :)

I think the robes are cool. Always have, always will, and I think they look even better with your mkIII helms. I think you did well to not give them hoods though. Have you considered some tabards for the normal dudes? or normal dudes sergeants?

I realise that it might be the strong flash, but the robes' white seems a bit stark? Have you considered giving them a sepia wash? Also, some decorative trim for the sergeants would look ace

Love the feathery combat shields :)

Finally, the Las-vindicator looks really good, but the cannons looks a bit twisted. For any more potential forge world models, I'd recommend looking at dipping them in warm/hot water to untwist them.

Well, it's been a while (ha), but I've been getting back into the swing. Here's my 2nd proto-Terran Rhino, little more sleek then the first. He's been touched up since these pictures (photo are great for finding defects).

 

I'm also just finishing my 10 Deathwing Terminators (after far, far too long), so I'll post them up shortly.

I'll then post a family shot-I've made some changes since the above pctures.

 

After them, my next project is then to build some alternate pattern Dreadclaws.
