The new Orbital Assault: Dreadnought talons

I believe it works much the same way as an Sub-Orbital Strike Wing of Dreadclaws would. I've linked my reasoning here:

Assuming the literal wording is "Drop Pod Units" that is a great conclusion.

Although we then run into the problem of what is a "Drop pod unit", you would assume a unit in a drop pod - but this is 1 unit in 3 drop pods (sort of... Talon rules lol)

My only gripe would be with how they are placed - IMO you would place them all at the same time, keeping to the minimum/ max distance from each other and them roll all of your scatter and such.

But otherwise, seems the best way to do it.

Well, there is this post form Heresy 30k

Here's the relevant quote:

Rules queries

I had a chat with AB about some rules queries that have appeared on the forum a couple of times and, I`ll be honest, affect my army.

Dreadnaught Talons and Orbital Assault

This will be fully clarified in the updated version of the CAL.

·         A Dreadnaught Talon of 2 or 3 models may be taken in an appropriate sized transport vehicle(s) such as Dreadclaw`s or DDP`s.

·         When deployed all the transport vehicles must be deployed within 6” of each other before rolling for scatter (if appropriate).

·         The entire Talon counts as one unit for the purposes of the Drop Pod Assault rule.  That potentially makes a horrific first wave J.

Sploosh.

Flamestorm Legion Dreads are inbound.

If that is the intention, then this + this and this x3 dropped in pods seasoned with additional flamers/gravitons/etc, will be quite the BBQ party. Add in main course Leviathans for a fuller flavour.

As Forgeworld appear to be discontinuing their boxnought range, I'll need to do planned purchase adjustment for Sunday. Well, if they wanted to boost sales of these, this (possible?) change should do it

Nope. Every Pod counts so one Talon with three Contemptors are three Pods.

But what brings you to that conclusion?

Alan Bligh and the rules say otherwise it would seem!

Either way - that quote says it'll be clarified in the book, so we've only a week or so to wait anyway!

Zedmeister - do those arms fit on Plastic Dreads, specifically the Venerable and BA ones? I have enough Box-noughts that I can use for 30k BA and I could just buy some flamestorms to swap in and out :D

That quote is from February, we have the portion of the book with the rule already. Unless they started adding tactical tips, we have all the info we are going to get. Add this to the Immobile, Recon, Specialist Weapon argument pile.

When you said portion, I thought of the new Star Wars. Now I'm hungry.

We shall find out this weekend RE a lot of things. As a blood Angels guy (waiting for rules to buy the rest) this would make my 3 cortus, 1 leviathan and an extra, meaning 3 cortus, and leviathan in your face with 45 assault marines t1, t2- t3= profit.

Yeah, cheaper assault marines should really make the Blood Angels sing.

Cheaper assault marines OR some kind of awesome rule to make them more than just "fast despoilers" would be amazing - akin to fury of the legion or something.

Also Cheaper Destroyers, 75pts for jump packs is just stupid.
