Best support squad load out?

Well, free volkite chargers and ability to arm them with extra ccw makes these guys pretty nifty now doesn't it?

Especially as a close support unit for assault units.

Yep, love this option. Especially with a melee Legion like BA or something.

 

 

What about WE's? Volkite before the charge.  S5, rage in the charge.

I field a 10 man flamer squad and it has dropped 50-60 wounds on a unit before.

 

Thats more than enough to hurt general 3+ units. However- 2+ or rerollable saves will pretty much ruins any damage out put of this unit (example are when ive had no other available targets and targetted either Locutious assault marines or IF breachers)

With volume of fire I think the bs5 is wasted on culverins as they have huge volume of fire and massacre things with glee. The higher bs comes in well for low volume of fire weapons such as las/ plasma. That said, I personally prefer siege breaker so that the hits count (against vehicles anyways).

 

That said, do people still use heavy support squads? There's so much choice/ competition for heavy slots, it's a nightmare!

10 man missile launchers with a Master of Signal in them? Same but with volkite culverin? Any thoughts on those?

I see your 10 man heavy support squad and a master of signal and raise you 10 Iron Havocs with a master of signal. BS6 Missiles or Lascannons or Autocannons! Muhahahaa

Go right ahead! I can easily say that the IW Havocs are among the few fluff/unique units that are actually better than their standard counterparts. I'm an AL guy, so for me HS missile squad with a MoS should do. Although rewards of treason can get me those exact same Havocs if I wanted to running the CoH :D

Slip Alpharius in there and those Havocs are hitting on 2's re-rolling :P

While I see what you mean, surely the more shots you have the MORE you benefit from higher BS?

I wouldn't completely disregard it, I'm just stingey with points and I think characters are a waste. Boys before toys :p

 

That said, that's from a competitive point of view which isn't why I play heresy :)

Culverins with a siege breaker I've run to awesome effect. Took 3 hull points off a knight. Mullered rhinos and tac squads. Earned there points

Isn't that nearly 450 points though? For anti tank there are much more efficient ways - quad mortars for example or lightnings? I'd happily take HS squads with culverins but I'm not convinced that additional characters are worth the points sink?
