Talon of Horus 2.......?

Recommended Posts

So if you've not check out facebook, ADB has just posted something pretty cool.

Iskandar Khayon - Black Legion warlord, born of Prospero.  High Sorcerer of the Ezekarion & master of the Ashen Dead.

Lheorvine Ukris, "Firefist" - Black Legion Warlord, born of Nuvir's Landing.  Officer of the Ezekarion & Champion of the War God's Maw.

Needless to say I'm really looking forward to this :D

:cuss yeah!!!! I cannot wait!!!

EDIT - I know 10k years is a long time, but I am kind of hoping Lheor Ukris becomes Urkanthos :D

Hmm, not sure that will happen.

Wasn't there a scene in Talon where Khayon describes when Lheor died, and how it sucked and was an example of how traitors actually have feelings of brotherhood and loyalty?

Yes there was.  I seem to remember it was possible the 7th Black Crusade when they where against the Blood Angels on Mackan?

Dude was (is?) a Thousand Son. Abaddon's companions (as of the end of ToH, before there was a named Black Legion) also include two other Prosperine Thousand Sons, an Emperor's Child from Chemos, a World Eater from Nuvir's Landing, and a pack of Sons of Horus veterans presumably from Cthonia and Terra. All from different post-heresy, pre-Black Legion warbands too.

Laying them out in a dramatis personae like that shows how their identities (homeworld, legion, relationship with their primarch, relationship with Abaddon, post-herey warband, role within the Black Legion) are mixed up things. ToH has a lot of these guys grappling with what parts of their identity are important to them. Everyone seems to call Khayon 'Tizcan' for his home city, for example, rather than 'Thousand Son' or 'son of Magnus'.

EDIT: Whoops, there was a Colchisian Word Bearer there too, as well as significant non-marines.

Bit surprised by the title of 'officer' of the Ezekarion. Kind of expected something more like 'brother'. Or 'buddy'. 'Abaddon and the First-Name-Terms Gang'.

I concur. "Brother" is too informal and "Frater" is too Loyalist-ish, but I'm still holding out for something cooler and more appropriate to strike my brainjunk in the throes of the wordstorm.

Suggestions welcome!

BL recruited from prospero 0_o . May I ask how?

Oh, you.

All these threads you were in where it was discussed before might help, you crazy jokemeister.

I thought a whole bunch of chaos fluff was that Abaddon drew marines to him from all legions/warbands due to his suddenly developed charisma, it's not a stretch these marines actually came from their respective home world's?

Mhm! Indeed so. And they're the among the main characters; anyone who's read The Talon of Horus will already know they were a World Eater and a Thousand Son, respectively. Sandlemad's explanation is a good'un.

Massively looking forward to this. ADB has a way of...elevating the 40K material to realms I would never have believed it would function on. Don't get me wrong; I'm a huge fan of the pulpy, bolter-porn, grim-dark hyperbole as anyone else, but books like The Talon of Horus, Aurellian, Betrayer...they make the universe and its characters something more; there's a wilflly subversive quality to them, in which they take established history and lend it subtly different emphases, making the villains not quite so villainous as they might be generally painted, the heroes not quite so heroic as their own self-authored legends claim...I particularly loved the relatonships between Khayon and his entourage in the last book; his genuine, emotional attachment to his pet Dark Eldar and daemonic familiar. Abaddon himself was the biggest surprise; I like him far better as the faintly laconic sage that ADB paints him as than the red-handed nemesis of all that is good he generally comes off as in the background books.

Dang, you hit on such a good one with 'Ezekarion', can see how it's tricky. Is 'companion' too chummy/blatantly Hellenistic? Thinking of the Ezekarion as a comitatus makes it more Germanic and warlord-y, perhaps. I get the impression that they're not all sworn to each other - brother, frater - so much as to Abaddon personally and/or the Black Legion idea.

It was indeed, I should have quoted jeske and for this I apologise. It was more surprise about the fact he talks alot about chaos and didn't seem to know this well established bit of floof

.

Ive got my copy of talon and enjoyed it yea verily, looking forward to round 2 :D

Why do they need such titles as Sorcerer or Officer in there? Isn't "Member of the Ezekarion" or "Founding member of the Ezekarion" enough? I bet stating that you're part of the Ezekarion would make any lesser lord or sorcerer soil their armour anyway...

Yeah, I've been bouncing between "Member" and "Officer" as the generic descriptors.

Just plain old Ezekarion? As in; Iskandar Khayon, High Sorcerer and Master of the Ashen Dead, Ezekarion.

I read only the first and half of the second NL books from adb. I have not read anything else he wrote. So for me this is not established stuff, but it is good to know that there are 1ksons runing around outside of 1ksons.
