Battle report. Kind of

Hey guys. Just wanted to debrief myself really in this game I just had. If you recall I was asking last week for thoughts on a pure wolves list for 1850 vs demons. My final list was

Deathpack formation

wolf lord in TWC. Runic armour. Fangsword thingy. Storm shield. 2 wolves

5 man grey hunter in pod

4 TWC with storm shields. 2 fists

Murderpack

15 wulfen all split into 3 groups of 5. Mostly THSS with 3 axes and 2 claws.

Wyrdstorm.

4 RP. Level 2. Psychic hoods. And 1 with helm of durfast. All on bikes

Demon list

Fateweaver

Belakor

D-thirster

2 big units of horrors

2 units of nurglings

9 screamer star with 2 heralds

We played tournament mission up here locally. Primary was double kill points. Secondary was control 2 objectives which ended up pretty centrally placed. Tertiary was line breaker, table quarters, and ground control (Contest or control objectives)

I rolled on librarius and biomancy for my RPs. I got veil of time and iron arm, psychic fortress and null zone were the highlights. Veil was good. As was null zone. But overall it was very hard to get any psychics off. I tried living storm 3 times in 10 dice and got denied every time with like 20 dice. How ever, with everyone sticking close together and 4 psychic hoods I shut down a lot of psychic shenanigans.

I basically ignored fateweaver. I had no good way of bringing down FMCs without living storm so just let him and belakor fly around casting stuff most of the game. My drop pod got me line breaker at the end. It was just ignored the whole me haha.

I swept around one side of the board and took his thirster out of the game for a couple of turns. But buffed up that thing hurts. And screamer star is basically unkillable. In the end I had 4 wulfen left who captured an objective by killing belakor pretty easily. My whole army killed the D thirster in one big epic combat. And I just ignored the screamer star until the end to contest an objective. I swept around the board and was quick to take out all his objective secured units and won the game by 3 points (killing belakor ended up the decisive points, along with my drop pod getting line breaker. )

Overall a great game. Rune priests did well considering double their dice across the table. Wolf lord was the beast with that sword striking at initiative. And wulfen were ok. But I guess they did pretty well considering they were fighting D-thirster. They could really do with some rerolls to hit, like prescience or zealot or preferred enemy or something. I think next time I would roll for prescience instead of biomancy. Librarius is solid. And still have yet to try electro displacement.

i have video batrep, which hopefully should go up in the next week or two.  Those psychic hoods were just golddust...without them i would have been psychic-powered off the table, but the 4 of them held their own as long as everyone stuck together.  I actually think fateweaver/belakor did not actually accomplish that much, they were just flying around the whole game and i mostly ignored them. I spent too many turns trying to down fateweaver with living storm, but that was mostly because i just wanted to try it out lol

I don't understand how you can say that SW have some of the best denying skills. Rune priests are expensive, considering they add little to the combat effectiveness of the army. At best, I find myself with a half to a quarter of the other sides dice and the roll to deny is still a six if the opponent is only buffing up his side. In most games, it doesn't pay to take any psykers, because I rarely deny and almost never get one of my own spells off.

Many daemon lists rely on witchfires for much of their damage output, which is mitigated by the use of psychic hoods+adamantium will. Plus the wyrdstorm brotherhood adds a serious amount of firepower that allows them to make their points back effeciently and consistently. In two separate games I've taken down a wraithknight with Njal.
