10 man HB vets with sniper is my go to if I'm running pride and they got even better in the the new book

And if you go Alpha Legion they don't even need a transport. Infiltrate, scout, open fire. Add banestrike rounds if you have the points. They do apply to the HBs or don't they?

Sniper is better than banestrike rounds and it saves you points.

Regarding the new vets, I was thinking to rum them with a pair of heavy bolters, but I'd like to know your views on them brothers. Not sure if this will be worth of a separate thread so I ask here. If is not good or already is a veteran tactica thread please let me now.

I think many people feel 2hb in a rhino(or pod) with marksman is the basic go to.

Ive been looking at options and theres a few that look promising for the points.

As a wb player I like my pods so my view maybe isn't the most general.

5 man, 1 Melta, 4 combi melta, aa on Sgt. In a pod is 200pts. Using machine killers it's a nasty punchy unit for turn 1. Run as marksman would maybe give them more use long term.

5-10 man, combi flamers or just 1/2 h.flamers, pod with marksman. Could work in a rhino but probably less effective

I'm going with pod, maybe I'll try the HF setup (as much as I love melta, 200 points for a 5 man squads seems too much for me, but may try it at some point I hope)

Oh, that's a good point.

There isn't a whole lot of point to banestrike rounds now, is there?

Yeah it kinda sucks for AL players. Imo banestrike should automatically ignore power armour (and only power armour) like the fluff indicates.

D'oh! Of course, I somehow forgot how sniper works.

Missile launchers are better for alphas, while plasma guns are better for everyone else. I don't like the HB except visually, you're paying all those points for effectively 1 extra shot per dude. Meh.

What's special about AL and missile launchers?

HBs wound T3/T4/T5 on 2+/3+/4+, regular bolters on 3+/4+/5+ or 3+/4+/4+ with Sniper. So it is a bit more than just an extra shot.

Special Rules Stacking.

I'm nonplussed about slightly better wound rates when I'm after rending hits, so the volume from frag missiles is what I want. Plasma guns wound on 2+ and ignore armor, so there you're looking for precision shots.

Against vehicles, you can go tank Hunter and machine killer for missile launchers that glance flare shielded Spartans ~33% of the time. Dynat can push them to AP2 vs vehicles (but requires to be in their deployment), while Skorr can stack Infiltrate or Move Through Cover and stealth on top.

By the way, the chainaxe thing that was attributed to Garro is false according to Garro. So enjoy the axes.

Special Rules Stacking.

Which rules are stacking?

Depends. Alpha Legion Mutable Tactics gives you the option of: Scout, Infiltrate, Counter-Attack, Tank Hunters, Move Through Cover and Adamantium Will.

Vet Tactics gives you: +1WS, Sniper and Outflank, +1 to Vehicle Pen, Stubborn and Re-Roll To wound vs (G)MCs.

So mix and match to your hearts content.

Okay, see? The enhanced edition still has the old terrible profile of S8 AP3 ordnance.

What version of the book do you have? Because this is a huge change for flyers who can take these missiles. They now can be fired in multiples, along with your other armament, and do more damage on penetrating hits.

Definitely a worthwhile upgrade for the Fire Raptor now, for example. Machine spirit for the avenger cannon, independent trackers for the guns, and then a payload of tank-killing missiles. Stormeagle still probably better off with lascannons, but the missiles are half the cost.

Yeah, I always thought that the 40k version of Hellstrike Missiles were AP3 also.

But this is the brand new 'Legiones Astartes: AoD Army List'. I have the hardback, physical copy.

Just checked again to make sure: 100% AP2!

You're quite right about the Fire Raptor. Very nice upgrade.

Interesting yours is AP3. I hear there were a few mistakes on the digital copies though, but the hardback seems to be relatively error free (I know! I'm shocked too).

The digital epub has the same new profile, so that's 2 out of 3 and good enough for me. Sucks that I got the one goofy version, haha.

The ordnance to sunder change is bigger than the AP, since now you can fire multiple missile and aren't restricted from firing other guns.

Haha! Does your version not update itself? I'm sure the digital editions do; might just get that change a little later.

It would seem like the new profile was intended though so definitely go with that.

I did think Ordnance seemed like an unusual rule for a missile as it really limits what your Flyer can do after using it.

Good spot there by the way! I hadn't really thought to look into those before your question, but in giving an answer I just realised how good they are haha!

That missile change is wonderful.

Slamming 4 of those into something is going to HURT!

20 points to swap out the useless S6 AP4 Sunder Tempest Rockets (fish for those Dread glances in a 6! Woo....) is an absolute no-brainer considering you can fire all four as "one" weapon when the bird arrives.

Also, fun fact: the version of the book I had lists Tempest Rockets as "Gets Hot!" in the summary page laugh.png now that would be censored.gif useless!
