Rules Changes in LACAL

I wanna know where people were playing that 20 breachers was deemed powerful enough to get a price bump.

It's one of the head scratchers for sure. Our first clue should have been open day. Somebody asked if they were going to tweak assault marines and breachers and the response was "Wait, your're saying breachers need tweaks?"

Does this mean I can run vindicator laser destroyers as a squadron?

yeah thats very much a thing ,  be a sick choice too , lots of anti vehicle tech in a nice little dangerous package.

Not to mention excellent at putting down mechanicum bots.

The way breachers are priced is that they favor small squads (for ZM) with 15 being the same cost pre-update but 20 going up 25.

So, here's a unit thats actually better run as multiple 10 Man Units vs Maxing them out.

I will actually disagree somewhat there.  If someone was previously getting mileage out of 20-man breacher blobs (I am not sure how, but hey, they are the tactical genius here), they are still 50 points cheaper for a big blob of 20 vs two squads of 10.  I've gotten decent use out of them as a 15-man speed bump that infiltrates and scouts onto a central objective and just annoys the crap out of stuff with 3 graviton guns, so for me the cost didn't change at all.

I will say they are more usable in Zone Mortalis where you may not have points to pump up squad sizes, along with the new Rite to give them 4+ invulnerables.

I think it was just a side-effect of them looking at the cost for "additional" dudes and going by their gear, they simply overvalue the benefit of hardened armor (which I think should be cancelled out by their mobility drawbacks) and a breaching shield as being worth 5 points per dude.  They figure if an assault marine pays 2 points for a jump pack, and a veteran pays 3 points for a chainsword, extra attack, and a bunch of special rules, than certainly a breacher shield must be worth 5?  Derpaderp?  The same dumb logic was probably applied to the Seekers. OMG these new rounds are so awesome, we gotta include the cost in the models, nevermind the huge tax you pay up front! DERPADERPADERRR!!

It's FW, it's the way we live. :D

^I've been getting an entertaining amount of mileage out of a command squad with Charnabal sabers to pal around with Khârn and an apothecary recently.

Chain sabers rock !

The only issue I'm having now is that chainaxes give that super sexy +1str. So it's a legit hard choice now to choose between rending or str5.

If you can get them in the 36" range
Laser destroyer array is 48" range. For some reason the new LACAL book doesn't seem to have an entry for them, unless I'm missing it.

Negatory raptor man please have a read. Of course it's up to you if you wish to play as 48" until it is FAQd however even then it's been muddy water for a few books now.

Any rules discussion etc please post up there

I do kinda feel that Vindi Laser Destroyers need a nerf to give other tanks a chance! Lol

If it wasn't for Guilliman dishing out Tank Hunters like candy I could no longer justify the Sicarans :-P

Yeah, at 48" I'd much rather have one than a venator!

I regularly use laser Vindis, and they are definitely a bit too effective especially in a squadron. I destroyed a Knight Castigator turn 1 in a game, chipped away a Typhon (in cover) in another by turn 2.

Reducing the range would limit their battlefield control or leave them more exposed.

I don't think laser vindicators are that bad. I think, coming at it from the point of view of actual price in dollars, forge world is smart to give some things a punch that are easily converted. It's easier for people to get their hands on some lascannon bits than a full resin kit from FW. Like legion vets pulling their weight well.

They are brutal against Marine armies in a meta dominated by infantry and vehicles, and MCs that aren't as survivable as those in 40k.

Price wise they are brilliant, only costing marginally more than a regular 40k Vindicator and they are a lovely kit also.

If you want to math hammer it out, a single laser Vindi will score 2 penetrating hits against av13 with a 50% chance to cause an explosion there after.

Having had own blast away at all sorts, they're very effective tanks.

Basically the las vindi and reg venator tank snipe each other and then the survivor lays waste to armour or quad launchers.

Reducing the range means that the venator is a longer range sniper, while the las vindi is a shorter range assault rifle. But wil rounds that are more deadly than a Snipers.
