What if: Unification Wars game made by FW?

It would have to be set before the founding of the Legions though, otherwise they would have to mention the II and the XI…

Either that or payday for Athrawes...

Lightning Bearers are a given, but there's no consensus on number eleven. Steel Guard, Apostles of War, Warriors at Peace, Keepers of Eden…?

I don't think they should be str 5 and T 5. I don't even think custodes deserve that. +1 strenght is huge in this game; at 3 you have the average human strenght and at 4 a power armoured space marine who can throw a car and tear open a tank hatch. They sure are stronger and tougher but not enough to justify an increase in stat imho.

I'd go for something like: Ws:3 bs:3 s:4 t:4 w:1 i:3 a:2 ld:8 svg:4+

usr: rage, furious charge and fnp 6+

I definitely disagree with those stats. They are still trained and veterans, so I would give them WS/BS 4. Also, they should have a save of 3+. It may be the first stage of power armor, but it's still power armor, not carapace armor.

What vehicles would be available in the unification wars era? AFAIK the predator and vindicator are from the dark age of technology, so is the rhino, and also proto-dreadnoughts according to the wiki (any info on those?), but what else?

and also proto-dreadnoughts according to the wiki (any info on those?)

Apparently they are "steam-belching", and used by the Brits Albians. Likely more "small armoured walker" than "battle casket"

Steamnoughts. I like the sound of that :D

No Warmahordes, please.

I kinda imagined the Unification Wars to be more like Nepoleonic Sci-Fi - massed infantry and field artillery - rather than tanks and vehicles. I just feel if you start doing techno-barbarian vehicles, you'll either end up with orks or Mad Max.

I don't like warmahordes, Xenith.

@Corswain, while I kinda agree with you, most STC are from the Dark Age of Technology, so vehicles were a thing, and including some in a battle (the odd rhino or pred) could be nice. No mech lists or AV14 walls, indeed.

Yeah, STC were around but I don't really need more rhinos, more preds etc.

Maybe keep them just on the Imperial (or whatever it's called before there is and actual Imperium) side. I can see the Emperor hording all the cool toys.

I'm not against vehicles. I'd just like to see something fresh.

I just had this thought myself the other day.  I think the Unification Wars could be an interesting side setting (like a self-contained game).  You have the nascent pre-Legion Astartes (Thunder Warriors) that could be one faction with enough variety to do different colors (as they all might have fought similarly then).  Various techno-barbarian tribes that could have their own factions as well to provide variety and have each with a distinctive type of personality and flavor.  IIRC they warred with each other, sometimes allying, sometimes not, I think even in some cases didn't the Thunder Warriors ally with some to defeat others?  Sounds like a lot of customization potential there.  Something like sci-fi steampunk, something sitting in between AoS and 40k.

Even at the risk of orkification, maybe the Testudo, Land Crawler or even the Cobra APC for non-"imperial" forces could be useful and different enough :) (the Cobra being something Centaur-similar in unit stats perhaps?)

Yeah, I can see small APCs working. I guess it depends on how many factions would be created. Each faction could be totally different and with Dark Age tech there are a lot of possibilities - grav, tracked, wheeled or walkers.

It'd be tough to find something new somewhere between "current" Imperial, Ork, Mechanicum and Tau.
