major higgins
Hi battle brothers, After the succes of my last funny question, now one about Fluff... I'm used to write names on every bases of my small soldiers. But wich names are more appropriate for Iron Warriors? I always Thought that ancient Greek names were good, because on Olympia, State Cities are the normal way of life on that planet, but reading the books of Graam McNeil I saw a very strange and Sci-fi names... What do you think about? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324167-another-fluffy-question/ Share on other sites
Brother Aiwass
Greek is fine. I don't like Graham anyway :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324167-another-fluffy-question/#findComment-4449913 Share on other sites
Calas Typhon
I tend to use greek for mine. For example, the main characters in my Cohort: Warsmith Minos Centurion Homados Ancient Sthenos Chaplain Alastor Apothecary Methodius I also add titles or unofficial ranks to some members such as my Standard bearer with the rank of Sémeiphoros, or my legion champion with the title of Pelekophoros. It adds a bit more character to the Legionaries I have. Nova_chron
I know Ninjaman's characters are named with Russian sounding names cause that's how he views the legions tactics and character... let the men die so long as our artillery kill the enemies as well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324167-another-fluffy-question/#findComment-4449976 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
The fluffiest answer would literally be "personal preference". Most people go for Greek names because of "Olympia", the names tend to fit the theme of the homeworld. Doctor Perils
I also feel like there can be some sort of modern German influence (ie WWI Germany), showing the industrial war side of the Iron Warriors. I'm trying to give my own Iron Warriors an Assyrian flavour, but tbh, I can never remember the Assyrian/Babylonian names I gave my commanders (I can only remember "Setal Berdax", which is formed of a Greek word for Iron and a deformation of the word "Bardiche"/"Berdysh"), so Assyrian names might not be the way to run :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324167-another-fluffy-question/#findComment-4449991 Share on other sites
Trevak Dal
My world eaters have Klingon sounding names, because I view that particular warband of them as being very Klingonish. Corswain
I think FW has the Iron Warriors recruiting from Lots of planets/cultures to combat their attrition rates. That explains the non-Greek names. Leaves you a lot of room to do whatever you want. Do a Grand Battalion of Olympians with Greek names or make up a Battalion from another planet with whatever names you prefer. Or mix it up. No wrong answers here. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324167-another-fluffy-question/#findComment-4450088 Share on other sites
