Spraying Testors Dullcote through an airbrush?

Recommended Posts

I am not aware of any "liquid 'brush on' dullcote." If you're talking about just regular testors dullcote that comes in a bottle and is lacquer based.. yes you run that through an airbrush. You will have to thin it with Lacquer thinner though...

And obviously you only want to be spraying a lacquer-based dull-coat over lacquer-based paint too :D

As lacquer's tend be be a little too strong for me you might want to consider something like Future-Floor polish mixed with Tamiya Flat Base. It's mega easy to thin with water and painless to clean up as it's water-based.

You may have to look for a different product that contains the same formula as future, based on your country though.

This is not true.

I will be coating with Future as a final step before Dullcote, so I should think I'll be OK.

As long as you are airbrushing you will be more than fine using dullcote. I've used lacquer based varnish for years on models painted with enamels and never had an issue. If you want to be on the safe side, after you give your minis a few coats of gloss varnish, let the minis set for a day then hit them with the dullcote. That way they'll be fully hardened. Airbrushing is way less risky than hand brushing.
