Anyone use a Proteus?

Destroyers, Seekers, Termies, Breachers (and equivalents) and units who can take Rhinos when using Armoured Spearhead.

Imo, just give it 3 TLLCs and Ac/Dozer shove shooty in it and call it a day.

If you want to go the extra step and can cut the squad down to 8, take an EAW and Scout the thing while enjoying slight reseves shenanigans.

Actually, awesome reserven shenanigans when combined with Ventanus's -1 to opponent's reserve rolls + DCR for -3 total.

Personally I like them to deliver breachers were they need to be. Now I'm spending the points saved by the cut to pay for the extra TW-LC, which makes it a super durable Predator annihilator. Three twin linked s9 shots also comes in handy to plink at flyers.

I've used one for a few months and plan to run two once in a while. Our league has had them priced at 160 for some time to encourage people to use them. Typically I run mine with a multi melta and double flamer, but with the new rules that double flamer will definitely be a 3rd twin linked lascannon.

Performance is ok. They are tough transports, but not overly threatening so most people ignore them. I typically run mine with breachers who drive towards an objective or act as a reaction group, but I don't think this is the best way to go. In the new meta I'd say they are an alternative transport for seekers- instead of a vigilator, grab an AV14 transport instead. If you don't get first turn, they're a battle bunker that protects your alpha strike. They make decent fire support units, but aren't good compared to dedicated AT.

Use it for it's strengths, basically. It's tough to crack, fairly cheap, and good at protecting your dudes inside.

I have an armoured Proteus. The tracks are not molded on, but they aren't the problem. The problem is everything else. The armoured sponsons, the little armored nubs that go ontop of them, the main hull, and how all these pieces mate with each other is what sucks. You'll need to pin, sand, and gap fill I'm afraid. Each piece is slightly warped, basically, and you end up needing to custom fit everything.

In the end they always turn out a bit cattywampus. I actually spent some time google image searching other people's projects and found that they all had the same gap issues as I did. Working with resin sucks. But hey. They look cool and most people won't notice:

(still WIP)

I'm building up my Alpha Legion Armoured Spearhead and plan to use at least 3 Proteus Land Raiders. All three will be outflanking and filled with Tacticals and Destroyers. I plan to keep 'em cheap as they'll be mobile - so stock weapons and Armoured Ceramite. Was thinking of sticking the pintle multi melta on, but I don't think it's worth it as at least one weapon will be snap shooting when it moves. Still, blasting Multi-melta shots into the rear is quite destructive. Choices...

Oooh, so was the 3rd lascannon option added in he re released CAL book?

I was going to go Armoured Spearhead, so pretty much anything can go in it, I'm thinking destroyers or plasma support squad.

Alternately, take one with a web, and 2 normal phobos as a heavy choice, all benefit from scout.

I use two as Breacher dedicated transport. They're very tough to stop, especially when you have two of them and other units with a greater damage output draw fire away from them. Once they've deposited the Breachers they can then plink HPs off things with their TL lascannons. I thought they were fairly good value before the price drop, but this will make them even better! smile.png
