New legion colour scheme? Help!:)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys in a bit of a pickle here

I'm currently fulfilling my dream of creating a lost legion to my own story and mould but I have one major problem... The colour scheme

Now I want something that isn't that close to the other legion's colours and my legion is based around Knights so it's hard enough being against the dark Angels

So does anyone have any suggestions for my scheme? I mean it could be one close to the 40k chapters, I just need ideas

Cheers!

Coming up with color schemes is, I think, one of the hardest things.  Two colors could look really good together but still not work out on a model.  I think I'm currently painting a test model for my fifth color scheme.

If you want something new, what about white with blue highlights?  White Scars are the only white legion and they're very monochromatic and kind of "pure" white, if you did mostly white but with a lot of blue (or green or really anything but black or red) it would stand out on the field but still be easily distinguishable from White Scars.

Or, pick colors based on the ideology of your legion.  Are they loyal, traitor, or in between?  Could be fun to do a lot of kind of muted earthy tones for a not-quite-loyal-or-traitor legion to show they're compromised.  Something like a gray and brown.

As Demonl says, World Eaters are white. So are Luna Wolves and Death Guard (Cream is pretty much white, right?)

Off the bat, I'd recommend against red (soooo many red legions). Avoid silver too, to get away from the Grey Knights (and Iron Warriors)

If your ambitious, how about a halved or quatered scheme ?

I think rather than choosing colors that simply look good and haven't been used, think about your legion's background culture and lore, and ask yourself what colors would make sense from that context. There should be some reasoning behind the color scheme. So consider colors that haven't been used by other legions and see if you can make it work with the fluff.

Thinking about the official Legion colours, you already have black/white/grey/silver and all of the primary and secondary colours, with the one exception of... orange! So if you want something that stands out from all the others, that might be worth considering?

The only colour I'd really avoid would be black, as the IH, RG and pre-Heresy DA are all already very similar!

Edit: As Thorn suggests, another way to make them different would be halving/quartering, all of the main Legion schemes are a single colour (with a handful with a second colour for shoulder insets).

Thanks for the replies guys! And yea I think white might not be a good idea overall, I like the ideal of orange although I have no idea how to paint orange and my theme is based around Knights and they will mostly have mk iii armour , silver would make the most sense ... Do silver and orange go well together?:)

Silver and orange would be a crazy mix. Never saw thst before. Orange and black works great.

Maybe a lighter orange with the silver?

And yes most legions have a simple scheme. Quartered and halfed schemes point to much to chapter.

^Silver and orange is good enough for Lamborghini :P

But if not silver and orange, grey and orange might work as well. Either dark grey or light grey, depending on what tone you want to set.

Keeping on the car theme, McLaren's race cars have usually had a bit of orange here and there if you want some easy inspiration. In my mind orange and white is a nice bright and popped color combo, Orange and Blue is a striking combination much used by Gulf Oil in their racing efforts, Orange and Black works for Halloween and McLaren-Honda.

Also thought of a bronze scheme? From my knowledge there are no bronze colour schemes

Minotaurs?

It's true, but they are about the only ones, so it should be easy enough to find a different shade, or something slightly different that would be different from the minotaurs smile.png
