hivey
Im really torn on how to make my Invictarus Suzerains for when i make my coils of the hydra list. I have bits book marked to make ones that would look alpha legion themed, but i also like the idea of using the official model painted up in ultramarine colors, showing the stolen gear. Im looking for opinions and maybe ideas on this. EDIT: the AL suzerains would cost about the same as the FW models. Spinsanity
Personally, I've never been one to like the "original model and Legion colors" CotH look. I've always assumed the rule reflected the AL stealing blueprints rather than actual suits of armour, or copying tactics... AL Suzerains would therefore be built by AL artisans, and thus have no reason to feature UM iconography, much less UM colors... hivey
Ive thought it that way, but also thought that it could be AL guys who were masquerading in the other legion, then left with stolen gear. betrayer41
I actaully like the original coolor look with hints of hydra in it. The way I look at it it reminds me of several of the hh books where that alphas actually infiltrate other legions using their own armor. I think it's very fluffy it paint them as ultras Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324321-al-modeled-suzerains-for-coils-or-not/#findComment-4454339 Share on other sites

Xenaur
I personally like the idea of AL modelled ones whether that be using official models with iconography removed and a few conversion or making it our of separate parts. I get idea that AL legionnaires infiltrated the other legions and stole their tactics and armour but I think they're too proud a legion to recycle the armour entirely without putting their own stamp on it. But to echo what others have said, whatever you think would be cool. There might have been some other subtle hints as well. Terminus
I am in the same conundrum. I have an eye towards perhaps using my Alpha Legionnaires as 40K Ultramarines, and I'm a fan of both the Suzerain models and Calgar's Honor Guard, who could easily be Suzerain with the addition of the new upgrade shields that are coming soon. I am tempted just to take those models, replace the Ultramarine shoulder pad with the Oroboros of elite Alpha Units, paint the inverted Omegas black and maybe add a few XXth transfers here and there. The only issue are the engraved Ultima sector planet names on the shields. :P The other alternative is to use headhunter torsos, some kind of axe, and the chapterhouse scaled shields which are very similar to the torsos. Sprinkle in some bits from Black Ark Corsairs, and you're in business. The Pounder
In the book Unremembered Empire a squad of Alpha Legion Legionaries manage to masquerade as a unit of Ultramarines that fought on Calth! So maybe Ultra's colours with extensive battle damage? As though they stole the armour off dead Ultramarines. BaC tactical legs and arms, headhunter torsos, heads, and shoulders, those chapterhouse shields, SM power axes, and capes from another 3rd party site (cant remember name atm). Torn between that and real suzerain models, because the suzerain models are gorgeous. DuskRaider
You could always paint them Alpha Legion, seal the model, paint over it Ultramarines scheme, then use some thinner to chip away at the Ultra scheme, revealing the Alpha Legion coloration underneath. hivey
That brings up another issue, im thinking of painting my AL just black metal, rather than the common coloring. But thats not the subject of this thread :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324321-al-modeled-suzerains-for-coils-or-not/#findComment-4454653 Share on other sites
