Officio Assassinorum

Hey BAC,

just been wondering if anyone out there in their discussions with FW members at Games Day, Open Day or the like, has ever come across any hint of the Assassins being added into the Heresy rule-set?

I think it would be a really cool addition to finally have them brought in considering how much of an arguably large role they played in the wider campaign.

would be cool on a wish-list note to have 'character' assassins too, ie Erestede Kell (traitor version), or even additional rules for the two clades left out Venenum (or however it is said) and Vanus....

Venenum Assassin (160pts) - Standard Assassin profile

Wargear -

Varantyne Silencer - 24"  S3 AP 3 (Poisoned 2+) Pistol 2

Special Rules -

Fearless, Fleet, Infiltrate, Stealth, Independent Operative +

Preparation - before the game begins, mark D3 pieces of terrain secretly and note these down. If at any point during the game an enemy unit enters the terrain they must suffer 2D3 attacks at S4 AP5 (Poisoned 2+)(Ignores Cover)

Clade Assistance - Once per game the Venenum Assassin may select an allied Infantry unit or Independent Character within 12". This unit gains Poisoned 2+ to the profile of any ranged weapon for the duration of that turn. This does not benefit Monstrous Creatures.

Vanus Infocyte (175pts) - Standard Assassin profile

Wargear -

Cognis Signum

Nuncio-Vox Castigar - Same rules as the nuncio-vox, however it may be used by units from an allied detachment.

Hold-Out Knife - St user, AP 2 close combat weapon (as the Vanus infocyte was never intended to get into combat, it is a last resort)

Special Rules -

Fearless, Fleet, Infiltrate, Stealth, Independent Operative +

Signal Disarray - allows the controlling player to add +2 to seize the initiative roll at the start of the game

The Sarge is a Traitor! - in the Shooting Phase select an enemy infantry unit within 12" of the Infocyte. This unit is force to take a leadership test with a -3 penalty. If successful a character in that unit or attached to the unit must suffer D3 S4 AP4 wounds with no Look out sir saves allowed. This rule may not be used in units with a Character who has a leadership value of 10, these leaders are too inspiration to those around them....

Coordinate Scramble - Once per game the Infocyte may call in an Orbital Bombardment. This represents the infocyte creating havok in the enemy targeting systems leading to bombardment of their own troops, and is represented by the following profile:

D3 Ordnance Barrage S8 AP 2 Large Blast

What do ya reckon? ;)

Maybe a points increase.....???

tbh I thought they were glass cannons a wee bit in that it wont take much to absolutely curb stomp either of them.... like one tactical squad could shoot one to death in one round in all likelihood....

either way, was just a spit-balling idea to come up with a cool concept really :)

I asked FW the same question a few months back, this was their reply:

"Thanks for your email, and some thought provoking questions. If I am totally honest I don't know about the future inclusion of Assassins in the Horus heresy game. Obviously we know they exist from the Black Library books. That being said there's nothing stopping you from using the assassins data slates in 30K as long as you have your opponents permission."

Cool ideas with the other Assassins though. Maybe make Signal Disarray a reroll to steal instead of a 5+?

Maybe a point increase, but I was thinking more in the weapons profiles. Lazy edit in orange below:

Venenum Assassin (135 pts) - Standard Assassin profile

Wargear -

Varantyne Silencer - 24" S3 AP 4 (Poisoned 3+) Pistol 2, sniper

Shroud bombs

Envenomed blade - S user AP 5 (Rending, Murderous strike, poisoned 4+, specialist weapon)

Special Rules -

Move through cover, Preferred enemy (Character), Fearless, Fleet, Infiltrate, Stealth, Independent Operative +

Preparation - before the game begins, mark D3 pieces of terrain secretly and note these down. If at any point during the game an enemy unit enters the terrain they must suffer 1D3 attacks at S3 AP- (Poisoned 4+, Ignores Cover, pinning)

Clade Assistance - Once per game the Venenum Assassin may select an allied Infantry unit or Independent Character within 12". This unit gains Poisoned 4+ to the profile of any ranged weapon for the duration of that turn. This does not benefit Monstrous Creatures.

Still a killy glasscannon, but a bit toned down. Pretty sure is not balanced but I had fun doing this

True, the only thing is, I was trying to give you a reason to really want to take these guys as opposed to another assassin, and I feel he is just a little bit .... ineffective?

I don't know you are probably right, there is a middle ground you have to achieve with these things.

I agree about the Clade Assistance part.
