DavianCool
Hi everyone, I recently bought Garran Branatar from deathwatch overkill and plan to paint him with a green paint-job (you can expect to see him soon in unfinished work) And, looking for an excuse to work with resin I bought a sculpted lava base from combat company - a really good site - but I have no idea at all on how to paint lava. I don't have an airbrush. Also what varnish should I use? Ideas? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324493-lava/ Share on other sites
Isolia
The GW (WarhammerTV) video on lava boards for the new AoS boards is pretty good, and easy to do. I recommend trying it on a piece of plastic or an empty base first, my first attempt was miserable. Takes some practice to look cool. Basically it's a yellow base, orange then red highlights and some black to simulate cooling lava. They also put out a cracked lava base tutorial in their advent videos but I like the approach less as it's easy to do a mess with their cracked earth technical paint. Other tutorials are also on YouTube as suggestions beneath these examples. Major_Gilbear
A great step-by-step tutorial here. Not only do you not need an airbrush, but the tutorial also shows you how to make your own bases for next time! Aeternus
Here's the guide from the company I use for my lava bases. http://www.darkartminiatures.com/page/lavaguide Over time I'm slightly altered what I use - white, yellow, orange on 75%, light red close to rock, dark red closest to rock, drybrush over with orange then yellow to tie it together. Cracks leave in a yellow/orange mix. Glow, drybrush dark red/light red/orange. Rock is black, drybrush dark grey/light grey Examples http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w376/Aeternas/image.jpg1_zps39hvpjad.jpg?1462923031640&1462923032435&1462923037415&1462923050651 http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w376/Aeternas/image.jpg1_zpsvfnrnmae.jpg?1463097681820&1463097682744&1463097687312&1463097699503 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324493-lava/#findComment-4458696 Share on other sites
