The (Lost) Primarch: Malcador the Sigilite.

this is my theory/storyline for the second Legion Primarch and possibly also his Legion.

We know the Primarchs where whisked away into the warp and lost. We have seen in several instances that when sucked into a warp vortex that which is not destroyed can find itself displaced to anywhere and more importantly any time. Here lies my interpretation. Malcador wasn't displaced to another world, he was displaced in time.

Examples of this can be seen in the traitor fleets as the fled to the eye of terror and the dispersion of the fallen dark angels. The funny thing when you open up the potential for time travel is its a pandora's box of possibilities you can't put back. GW, thank you. With time travel theoretically you also open up the possibility for alternative timelines. Well that's what this is so i'm going with it.

Some may think of this as crazy and for good reason. After all he is described as just a man after all, non descript and of average height and old as hell. A massively powerful psyker only surpassed by the Emperor. The being old part is easy enough to explain away he is just that, really old. His decrepit physical condition is not as easy to explain away though. A primarch(in my opinion is immune to effects of aging) so would succumb to old age. this means that it is a condition caused by other reasons.

All the primarchs were changed during their abduction. Some more than others. Those with prodigal psychic levels the most. Here i have my "Magnus" theory. Magnus was changed arguable the most. This i think is because of his psychic nature. From that I can theorize that Malcador would be similarly physically changed. In Magnus we have a case of deformity and gigantism. On the opposite spectrum we would have Malcador physically diminished and aged to the point of him looking human or similar in stature in build.

However his psychic abilities would be beyond measure. He is described as an alpha plus psyker and I think that's a little of an under statement but it fits we'll enough because there is no way to measure this god like power in reality or game wise other than he can snap his fingers and whatever he wants happens.

So with a psychic level that powerful the emperor would be able to pin point Mal as soon as his (test tube?) crashes back to earth and he is ejected from it. This is the past, far in the past even before present day. The emperor may not even know what it is that he finds but finds a person of similar abilities. After that Mal actually becomes the first found son of the Emperor, in the past long before he was even made. This could ultimately be the turning point in which the emperor begins the idea of genetics and artificial creation and enhancement.

Afterword:

This is a a lot of what ifs! I will be the first to admit this. But giant what ifs they are. I write this not only for my own use but anyone else that wants to use the idea independently.

I'll do my best to make the case reflect in the fluff. Anyone wishing to poke holes in this feel free to do so constructively. Give me an alternative that maybe i didn't even realize. This is after all my fan fluff endeavor, and with that anything goes usually, but I want this to make sense not just "because I said so" which happens all to often. There you have it. My Second alternative "idea." It will be perfectly able to be used independently of my other work. I'll be adding more to this and post it as i get more wrote and hopefully suggestions from you guys too.

Thanks for reading. more to come later.

I like this theory. Eager to read more about it. In your theory the Grey Knights could fit as the lost 2nd Legion, don't they?

My own lost Legion the XIth " Wardens of Light" met their primarch after he lived after thousands of years, where he overcome his nature as mere weapon.

Yes, something similar to that. The big E would ever tell the other Primarchs that Malcador is actually their brother. Magnus may have an idea about it, maybe Kornrad Curze butlets face it Curze is insane so who would believe him anyways right?

I think i'm going to go with his Legion actually being wiped out early on "lost" fighting against a Warp incursion. Space marines can fight chaos yes but they lose I think more than they ever win. If it was the other way around then why even have grey Knights to begin with? It would keep to the secular Imperial Idiology shtick. Can't have news of an entire legion destroyed at the hands of Chaos warp entities! No that just wont do. They where lost in the warp! Not lost TO THE WARP. And that's why Malcador is grumpy, all his grand kids died by Chaos.

Jokes aside, I got to work on that and its a fine idea. Maybe the few survivors could become the Grey Knights. Who knows, haven't thought that far just yet.

Malcador is a perfect fit for the High priestess Primarch Tarot. This is actually how this all started. I was reading it and then "LIGHTBULB!" Malcador is a PERFECT match! Why didn't I see this before? Answer? Its so obvous no one would even think of it, besides everyone assumes him to be a perpetual.

Your wardens of Light I like a lot but I don't like Russ being the killer of his brother every single time. It's to easy. Your primarch is very cool though! To bad how he went out.

anyways, thats it, excuse me while i go beat my cat for scratching up my leather chair. furious.gif

I will follow that for sure. Really curious how you play everythimg out and the high priestess really fits to malcador.

Uhm. Russ is not the Killer by the way. His own sons killed him^^

And thx, I like him too

And please cuddle the cat. I love cats, even if the scratch on my leather seat. Maybe remove the claws and laugh when they can't keep the balance anymore...gnahajaah

I'll try to keep it going. Yeah I know they did. Thats why i said "to bad how he went out" but then its better than getting yourself killed by a Nurgle demon prince. Yes HORUS i'm looking at you!

The cat ran away somewhere in the house and I can't be bothered to catch him, he lives.....for now. devil.gif

Hello again. doing more research and I well down the rabbit hole so to speak. Every answer left me with another question and something new to look up. This is What i found after just trying to Find the name: Malcador, which ironically isn't even a proper name. Some of this stuff I didn't even know about until today. besides totally geeking out on research for this I got really drunk last night and found a stray kitten, which i saved and is finding a new loving home with a friend tomorrow. Save the Kitty quest completed! Well down to business!

Mal-

The syllable mal- means "bad", "evil" in many Romance languages, being derived from Latin malus (with the same meaning). It also appears in many English words, as in malicious, malign, malevolent, malignant and (yes, these words exist) maleficent and malfeasant. Malefica particularly is Latin for "witch."

There you have it. Put it all together, its not just Malcador that has "Mal" in his name. Put simply is a syllable for "magic user" and/or "really nasty dude you should not fight or piss off at all costs."

Cador

The Arthurian Legend meaning of Cador is: Nephew of Arthur

( i really know nothing about the following, I'm just going along with what was wrote and hope its all on the up and up. It was on a baby name page after all and i doubt they would BS about something like this)
The name Cador has a numerology value of 8
In numerological terms, this means the following

Power
Ability to do or act; capability of doing or accomplishing something.
Political or national strength.
Great or marked ability to do or act; strength; might; force.
The possession of control or command over others; authority; ascendancy.

Sacrifice
The surrender or destruction of something prized or desirable for the sake of something considered as having a higher or more pressing claim.

There it is. Mal-Cador. Witch nephew of Arthur. We would also take from this that maybe he wasn't such a nice guy at some point. Which i'm guessing could be true. All of the primarch's have displayed rage induced crazyness at one point or another. It could also be cause by the fact they are all rather freaking scary to be honest. (Curze excluded/ he is "terrifying.") msn-wink.gif

I could easily see Malcador pulling an scene from Akira and telekineticly pulping everyone in sight.(if you haven't seen akira, watch it, If you don't like it your dead to me and have no soul)

Anyways, father down the rabbit hole we go!

Cador was the duke of Cornwall. According to Geoffrey of Monmouth, Cador was the son of Duke Gorlois of Cornwall and Igraine. In the Welsh legend, he was called Cadwr, the Earl of Cornwall.

Though he was actually half-brother of Arthur, Geoffrey says that he was Arthur's cousin.

Cador was one of the earliest followers of Arthur. Cador took part in the war against the Saxons, France and Rome.

According to Geoffrey, Wace and Layamon, Guinevere was Cador's ward when Arthur met and fell in love with her. They were soon married.

Cador took part in the war against the Romans, but was not mention in the war against Mordred. There were no mentions of his death. After Arthur's death at the battle of Camlann, Cador's son (Constantine) became king of Logres (Britain).

point blankly they really have no idea how he is related to Arthur, he just is in some way. He fought the Romans and disappeared after that and did not take a role in the "final battle with Mordred along side Arthur(or did he? there is many contradictory sources). Cador had a kid that eventually became King.

It could be Cador was busy with something else just as important too. But then who cares, I'm not doing a doctoral paper here on King Arthur, just something to use to help build my story up. I also found a source as his name being Cado a king of the 5th century. Its all getting rather contradictory and guess work at best in sources by this point so I stopped there. I got what i needed. If i need more i'll do some more digging.

So with that I think i got something to help flesh out Malcador's early years like the rest of the Primarchs have got through the years. Malcador was at and involved in the knights of the round table which is very cool and I think appropriate background fluff for a primarch to meet the Emperor. Romans flew eagle standards, that little bit is not lost on me. I'll work that in somehow i think. He is the Sigilite after all :)

C&C welcome as always and remember bolters don't kill people, Space marines kill people! cool.png

I see the Arthur Reference more as a metaphor, where Arthur, the great King, could stand for the Emperor

Hey, that is interesting information, and seems to fit somehow with the theories, that Malcador is a relative to the Emperor. But following your theory he is the bad nephew, relative. which could strengthen your theory of the lost legion.

but why is he "bad"? Because he was so degenerated? Wouldn't be a word for "old" or "the first" more fitting?

Old Europe was notoriously intolerant and hostile to anything different. Malcador being a psyker would definetely define him as a "witch"

I'm also toying with the idea what Malcador was a twin. All the primarchs came to ascendancy on their own worlds one way or another. On Earth that would be very hard to do with the big E being top dog. Arthur could have been Mals "twin" and Mal kind of being the physical "runt" I would need to restructure things but then legends are never the real whole story and I could twist it a bit to fit within Warhammer Lore.

From the Chaos codex: ultimate edition(2nd edition)

"and on that blasted Heath his ashen servants turned, gripped by cold unthinking terror, and fled his presence. Thus on the blasted heath the Deamon Prince Doombreed was born. And he roared....."

That can kill a primarch potentially. Seriously though I know in a lot of the stories the Primarchs treat greater Demons and Demon Princes like they are little better than rank and file troops. This really miffs me because The primarchs are basicly the Greater Demons of the Emperor. They are great yes, but not to the point where a greater being of chaos can't put them on their rear ends. Just ask the Angel.

Arthur dies to doombreed, marking his ascension to Demonhood. Possible storyline

Roman wars are fought because the Emperor is well the Emperor of Rome and wants to crush another Warlord not knowing its his own sons.

The Emperor sends his army to Crush doombreeds army before he becomes to powerful and mistakenly trigger a war with the Twins.

Chaos corrupts several of the people in Camelot and triggers the civil war that see's arthur dead and Cador set adrift.

Maybe a little bit of all the above..

Or maybe Arthur is the Emperor and after kicking in doombreeds teeth, he desides to play dead and him and old Mal hit the road determined to keep fighting the good fight? On the road they find a Roman Eagle standard and Mal is like "dude, this is sooooo your symble!" but the Emperor is kile "No, me like Lightning bolts, Lightning bolts good!" But Mal keeps it anyways as a Torch/walking stick laugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.png

Edit: promise i'm really working on this and not just taking the censored.gif. Jokes aside I should have something "real" to give soon and not just conjecture and theory.

Malcador: Plundered Vaults
note: edited for gross errors and predictive text general wrongness.

The being both which was and would become Malcador began same as the other Primarchs. The Emperor's genetic engineering had accumulated in him most important creations, the Primarchs. Twenty beings of unimaginable power and singularly brilliant minds to only be exceeded by the Emperor. They would be his undefeated generals and peerless leaders to usher in the reunion and expansion of the human race across the galaxy.

The Gods of the warp knew these beings would be the doom of them all and plotted to destroy the infants to deny the emperor ultimate victory. Finally Chaos found the perfect time to strike and attempted to destroy the Primarchs all. Pooling together their unimaginable powers the Fell God's defeated the Emperor's psychic ward's and protections. They struck immediately and fiercely for they where hungry to gorge on the contents of the Emperors creation, opening a tear in the fabric of reality into the realm of madness.

The Emperor alerted to the disaster responded instantly and arrived to find madness and the blurred vision of a figure standing within the catastrophe. The Emperor had many choices in this brief instant. Should he stop this terrible intrusion and the shade which created it or relinquish his sons and trust to the warding of the capsules to see them to safety? Malcador would he exist if he intervenes, His oldest comrade and dare say friend? Would the paradox it created destroy them all?

With this in mind and a heavy heart the emperor did nothing, turning his back in his anguish and walked away trusting to his powerful wards and time to reconnect him to his lost creations.  Thus it was the Primarchs were scattered through space and time.

The Primarchs where thrown far and wide and none remained unchanged by the event. But for Malcador which had already become self aware thing would be both better and much worse.  The infant was thrust into the world of nightmares. Things of which he saw are indescribable to the human mind. Absolute horror and insanity surrounded the infant which attempted to eat its way in towards him. Surrounded by such evils Malcador did the only thing his mind new how to do, he fought back.  Who knows how long this fight was or how fiercely it was fought but ultimately the warp spit the capsule back out into the mortal realms where the capsule reemerged from the warp  and screamed through the sky like a demon, plunging through a bright blue sky to land on a far flung island.  This capsule smoking and scared from it journey came to rest in what he would later learn was a forest in the land of Britannia, in the lands of the Welshmen's.

Only a few dared to venture in search of the landing of the screaming demon from the sky. Only a few knights wishing to rise in valor or witch's wishing to try their luck binding the demon to their will would ever attempt a journey so dangerous in those dangerous times. So it was the infant Malcador lay in wait for deliverance from those which were the best and worst of humanity of the age.

As circumstances transpired it would be a young sorceress which stumbled across Malcador first by which  went by the name of Morgan the Fay. Unlike many of those that would soon arrive Morgan was a witch sorceress which spent her most recent lifetime protecting the wilds of Britannia. She also happened to be one of those rarest of humans, a perpetual. The ground in which Morgan walked crunched with frozen leaves and snow fell freely within the new clearing, psychic power bleeding from the capsule in undiluted waves. Within the smoking wreck lay not one but two infant children. One infant lay mortally wounded and dying from multiple deep wounds, like it had been mauled by one of the rare dragons that where know to dwell within the highest mountain peaks. The other child was wizened like it had already aged by centuries and left as fetal ancient half mummy like she had somethings seen way back in Egypt.

Psychic cries of anguish and pain assaulted Morgan from the wizened child with such intensity she was sent reeling from the force and promptly blacked out for several minutes unable to block the mental and emotional assault coming from within. When Morgan finally awoke the intensity of the psychic assault had lessened little but became tempered with need and urgency. Picking herself from the ground she again advanced towards the infants. Sending calming surges of her own powers towards the infants Morgan stood before the children unsure about what to do. From the wizened child came a heartbreaking plea to save his brother directly into her own consciousness and Morgan knew then that she cold save the child, but the cost to them both would be high and time was not on their side.

With this thought time seemed to freeze, snow flakes raining heavily a second ago now hung in the air like pearls in the air. "Do what must be done, no sacrifice is too great. he must live as must I. We must find him, our father." the child said within her own mind with much regret and tempered with a sense of inhuman understanding which shocked Morgan to her core.  With her will fortified for what was to come she began the spell which would save them both but would forever change them.

The spell of binding was not a complex spell, it was a curse of utmost potency but powerful because of its lack of complexity. To bind two beings together as one was a nefarious spell she would only use on the worst of men, condemning then to lives as monsters after combining them with beast. Their own minds and bodies twisted to reflect the sins and debasement of their own soul.  Time flooded back with a vengeance from its timeless state as the curse took hold of the twins. Whiplashing back in a frenzy of acceleration. The mortally wounded child began to fuse and then melded with the other ancient child. The horror of what she had done stark testament to her own eyes which burned with tears.

The power of the spell ran rampant for several days, feed from the psychic powers unleashed. From the torrent of energy came howls of pain and suffering. Raw power bleeding from the opening of the craft. Morgan fearing of what she had unleashed and not willing to be caught within the curse and the repercussions of her actions fled to the safety of the forest edges to await the results of her doings for good or ill.

This has been what i have wrote over the past two days.  It is not a lot, but i wrote and then read and then rewrote much.  Trying to get a clear beginning to the story is pivotal to later material as it sets the groundwork for what is to come.  That was HARD. lots of idea's where scrapped. I toyed with the idea of Arthur being his brother and scrapped it. Had the idea of Arthur finding them first and scrapped that too.  I wasn't even sure that I wanted to do King Arthur but I would have had to scrap it all and King Arthur is easier than Rome to depict in a story setting here. God i don't want to deal with that kind of politics. Also the setting for a legendary kingdom is much more forgiving than a kingdom set in much firmer historical setting and facts. As i researched things it was very apparent that King Arthur and Camelot are just that, Legend with a little historical fact from several different times and countries. Maybe there was a real King Arthur but not the one we know of today.

Anyways I am off topic. The trauma of fighting off the warp I wanted to make very brutal and unforgiving, you don't look into the abyss without it looking back and changing you so the saying goes.  Well it did, and took a bit out of them to boot.  I also wanted the name he would eventually gain to make sense from its numerological strengths. That of strength and sacrifice. There are many strengths which I have placed the mutilating burden on his twin so far. Poor chap. Future story will hopefully smooth this out and balance the character after its forced rejoining.

I added a perpetual, Thats right! me! I thought it was cool and would make more sense. Also I added good and evil reinforcements to the foreshadowing so that Malcador's founding is not ho-hum and more defining as it should be when finding a Primarch in Dark ages of Europe.

It was hard to not tie this in with my other 30k work. I was so so very tempted but I managed to do it(i think) and keep it independent of any other none standard influence. Any grammar or word misuse is my own fault. Sorry, I blame public education and my obtuse nature as a teenager.

C&C very welcome. If you got a good point I'd like to hear it.

Cheers!

I alwayes belived Malcador is just a Alter-Ego of the Emperor.

The Emperor needs a personae his Followers could talk more free then they probaly would to the Emperor. Malcador may also make decisions the Emperor would be blamed for. This way he can do and still claim to be not involved .. like the Assassins Malcador unleashed after the betrayel.

The will of the Emperor is that powerfull that he probaly could have split his "soul" with ease.

When the emperor "dies" Malcador gives all his Power/Vitae to prolongen the life of the Emperor so Dorn can complete the Throne.

Anyways i will follow your Theory

That's the nice thing about fiction! Everyone has a different view and anything can happen.

I wont be rewriting anything that happens during the heresy. This is stand alone. Its just a different point of view for those that are interested.

With that said I will be tying it in at some point to my alternative history but that I will reserve for that topic and not here to keep it purely independent.

RL has been keeping me busy the last week or so.  I will try hard to get something new up in the next day or two.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry guys, i've been busy with a few unfortunate events. I was cat sitting for my friend and the little gremlin fell out of the window the last night he was suppose to be here and broke his back leg really badly. compound fracture of the left thigh bone right above the knee joint. poor little guy won't ever walk normal again. Surgery only has a 40% chance of success we where told. :( So i've been in and out of the vet constantly the past week or so. I was suppose to start a new job this week as well but i was constantly lied to and given the wrong work opposition. So I did what I think most people would do and told them to kiss my rear quarters. Job hunting + Cat rehabilitation all week!

Needless to say this hasn't been on my mind recently and I don't have anything new written. I will very much try to keep this alive and going. Bear with me and I will have more wrote soon as possible.

On a more positive note if your worried about the cat Thank our for your concern, his name is ironically "Tiger" and he is doing fine even with a bad limp. My friend calls it the pimp limp. His wrath aimed at the doctors would put even Angron to shame and has quickly become loved yet feared by the them. He will be ok. :)

cheers.

Sorry to say folks, this is soundly dead.

I have been unable to find a moving forward point from where i left off and just don't have the time to do so either.  Unfortunate. Could a moderator kindly delete it please, I do not wish to clutter up the forum any more than necessary.

Sorry.
