Riedler
Hi I am considering starting an Iron Hands army, but I am not quite sure where to start and what to buy. I do not want a waac list, but rather all around list with some focus on tanks. I want most of my warriors to be mark III so BOC does not seem like a good buy. I am thinking the support cadre is a good start. Maybe get two and some extra mark III plain warriors. This should get me two 10 man tacs, 5-10 gorgons and 1-2 contemptors. Immortals look good but seems to expensive game vise. Next, I will need some tanks. A Spartan and a sicaran I Guess are solid choices, and maybe a couple of rhinos. What do you think? Reyner
The Support Cadre is a good start and I keep being tempted by it myself, you could hold off a bit since the rumour for the next plastic Heresy boxed set is focused on MK3 dudes. Can't go wrong with the support set though! Other than the crappy Contemptor loadout. Emperors Teeth
Welcome to the Iron Tenth! There's rumours abound that the successor to the BoC box will have plastic mkIII's in it. I have my doubts about being able to cast this mk effectively in plastic, but wither way, keep it in mind. The Support Cadre is a great addition to a starter force, but perhaps not ideal to build one from the ground up. Almost every army (barring unusual Rites of War) will require lots of boots on the ground. I was going to suggest getting the mkIII Tactical Squad bundle, but in searching for a link, turns out it's gone . Tactical Squads are 10-20 guys in 30k, with 10 in a Rhino or 15ish on foot being common unit sizes. It's best to just grit your teeth and get the large block of infantry now, rather than put it off indefinitely. You'll be glad you did later, when you'd be torn between needing infantry and wanting the cool stuff. You'll need 2 Troops & 1 HQ, so definitely look at getting at least 20 mkIII guys with bolters:20 bodies: 4x https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Legion-MkIII-Iron-Armour-201620 bolters: 2x https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Phobos-Pattern-Bolters-20152 Sergeants & vexilla's: 1x https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Legion-MKIII-Command-Upgrade-SetYou could just get 3 sets of bodies if you're getting the Cadre, and mix in the wizzy IH themed bits from this set in to the units. 2 Cadre's and 10 extra mkIII guys would be a viable option, too. P.S. Don't forget to get an HQ choice. Even if it's just some random Centurion from perhaps the mkIII Command set (with added IH bits :) ) for now. Reyner
I would advise buying the Iron Father model for your HQ as it is fantastic :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324569-starting-iron-hands/#findComment-4461139 Share on other sites
