MagicMan
So ive been thinking lately about the Centurions and all the cool options you can take... But there arent alot of examples about. Do librarians wear psychic hoods in 30k? Do Chaplains have skull helmets? Do Techmarines wear red? What does a Delegatus look like? So please help a Horus Heresy noob, and share your info, examples, conversions and opinions!! Corsovitt
On the subject of psychic hoods there are advocates for both side although there is mention of the last world eater librarians using them in the novel 'betrayer'... Chaplains or Wardens in the VIII legion are described as wearing black armour in the audio book compilation Lightning Tower/Dark King... Similarly the Blood Angels Wardens are also described as wearing black... I think when it comes to skull helmets its all a matter of taste. Forward Assist
I've modelled a psychic hood onto my Librarian Consul purely because it makes it easier to identify him. I reckon that psychic hoods will be available to all when Inferno comes out on the assumption that it'll give people some means of countering the Thousand Sons but that's just a guess. Balthamal
Can't remember where I read it but I'm sure there was something along the lines of psychic hoods were a matter of taste and whether they provided any meaningful benefit to the psyker in question. Most of the thousand sons didn't have them if I recall right Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324583-support-staff-assemble/#findComment-4461694 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
Can't remember where I read it but I'm sure there was something along the lines of psychic hoods were a matter of taste and whether they provided any meaningful benefit to the psyker in question. Most of the thousand sons didn't have them if I recall rightYeah, in the Heresy era, psychic hoods were used by the more "superstitious" legions as it didn't really give any benefit besides making it easier for a psyker to focus. Mostly because it did the focusing of power for him. For example, we don't see the Thousand Sons or the Rune Priests using them. But we do see the Dark Angels and Ultramarines using them, at least until the Edict of Nikea when the Ultramarines removed the psychic hoods so as to better assimilate with the rest of the Legion. But then by the time you reach 40K, psychic hoods are believed to be essential as they provided "miraclous protection" against daemonic possession. Something which the background shows continuously does not happen. So they might show up, but they might not. It would mostly depend on the Legion. Thousand Sons would probably see them as starter wheels on a bicycle; if you're using it, it's only because you are either unwilling or unable to harness your power by yourself. The Space Wolves I'd feel would be against psychic hoods since it brings a certain artificiality to something they steadfastly view as an entirely natural connection. Legions who think logically and rationally like the Ultramarines do, would probably have a high reliabce on psychic hoods as they would feel that it adds a certainty to the otherwise random and unknown nature of the warp. Balthamal
Actually the Wolves were one of the few I can recall who had them - at least the guy in Howl of the Hearthworld did. Rubio had one. Fel Zharost had one as well. I always thought that pre heresy etc they found other means of focusing psychic power. Like Ahriman had his stave. Typhon his reaper. I just assumed that with the founding of the Grey Knights and the bits and pieces we've seen since linking Arviida with it, that he was the one who suggest it as a way of bringing sharper focus to psychic power, whether manifesting or keeping the mental walls up as it were Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324583-support-staff-assemble/#findComment-4461804 Share on other sites
Sandlemad
The skull helm was supposed to represent the visage of the Emperor in his deathless state on the golden throne, theoretically it should be a post-heresy development. However Xaphen of the WB has a skull helm in The First Heretic, as does Nemiel of the DA in The Lion and the DG chaplain in Distant Echoes of Old Night, so go figure. The only official Delegatus model, that of Autilon Skorr, represents his chosen duty nicely with a little sceptre. Don't think there's anything in the way of other guidance but a scroll case or something - the likes of which are all over 40k marines - would do a good job of indicating the task the consul has been assigned. I didn't remember the Wolves having one. Just seemed like it would clash with their whole "Our psychic powers come from Fenris and all you idiots with your sophistication and knowledge are ruining it!" vibe. Maybe that's just my personal bias lol. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324583-support-staff-assemble/#findComment-4461835 Share on other sites
Balthamal
Yeah they feed Malcadors grunt some crap about "appeasing the spirit of the armour and it having no further purpose" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324583-support-staff-assemble/#findComment-4461843 Share on other sites

Theredknight
My chaplain charmosian has a skull helm, and the armour is trimmed in black as per the first trilogy. Also Blood Angels in fear to tread repeatedly mention how they were 'stripped of their hoods' to them it was more a badge of office, much like the crozius is to a chaplain. Reyner
Word Bearer Chaplains or "Imperial Heralds" wore black armour with the skull helmet in Book 3 (think it's 3 the one with their Legion rules!) since they were marked for death when they were sent to cities/worlds to bring them into the fold of the Imperium and lots of them were killed. Please feel free to share pics of your officers, id really like to see what other people have come up with!! This is my terminator librarian from my WIP thread from a while back: For the body, I used a GK torso with built-in psychic hood purely for the look. I opted for the normal legion colours instead of blue as I didn't think they'd flaunt they were in contravention of Nikaea. (Something makes me think that only came in after the Heresy once the Codex Astartes came along?).
