Signus prime basing ideas

Hii all,

So I have decided that I will do my blood Angels on signus.

I toyed with holst, the daemon world would open up a lot of options, but after listening to the audiobook, I really like the idea of slogging it out in mud and blood.

Would you think that this would be a suitable material, mixed with a little blood for the blood God in the water effect?

Could also use some powders on the legs etc and some chipping medium for the scratches etc that would occur due to daemon talons.

I only ask here as there are more heresy people who may have read/ heard it!

I think it will work, always pictured Signus to be ash/sand rather than mud. A thinned blood for the blood god  or red wash will give the effect your after. I would look for a light brown textured paint for your base.

To my mind the sand at the start of Saving Private Ryan would be a good reference point.

Very cool concept, but I see one possible problem. You want bases to contrast your model.

Fluff coolness aside, the gore and blood on the base might blend in with the crimson red of the model, risking not complementing and contrasting the model.

My suggestion, be sparse with the blood and gore on the base and focus more on the mud and ash.

And please post some pics when you're done, I would love to see what it looks like :D

Holst is a hive-world, so ash wastes/mud and bits of buried rubble/scrap seems reasonable.

As for the material, I'd probably add plenty of mud to the bases, but I'd avoid making them just mud as it's pretty bland and featureless. Besides that, you want something that will offset your Blood Angels nicely; as the brown of most muddy colours tends to have a lot of red in it, this on its own may not provide the contrast your figures need to stand out and look attractive.

Maybe if you go for ruins/wasteland/buried rubbish bases, and use lighter paster shades (ochres, greys, light tans, pale green-greys, etc) you might get something that still evokes Holst but that also shows off your miniatures well.

Some examples here, here, here, and here.

Signus prime battleground next to the cathederal of the mark is a mud splattered brawl with clouds blocking everything, they just went mad tearing things apart with their hands and vampire teeth. At least that's the vision I get from the audiobook :-)

Holst was an idea, but I think a darker mud would be better. I see what your saying about contrast there.

In order to not make it too bland I was thinking, undulations and really stippling the mud, tank tracks and basically, bits of human cultists and shattered armour, bolt cases and empty bolters / pistols discarded, broken blades etc Few parts of 9th legion armour and vehicle parts occasionally.

Oh and some dissolving daemon corpses
