Vanquisher vs Annihilator

So I'm considering one or the other but haven't used the annihilator before. Anyone care to chime in on their viability vs our standard tank hunter model russ? Is the reduced range offset by the twin-linking?

in my experience the range doesn't matter that much and 48" is more then enough, and twin linked is sorely needed with BS3. on the other hand the vanq is better versus AV14. so its a toss up based on if you encounter more xenos or other imperials who bring the AV14.

48" is plenty as mentioned, and aside from the tank being a bit left behind rules wise as nice as twin-linking is Guard can get lascannons easily enough elsewhere. On a tank I'd rather go with something more specialised so I'd have a Vanquisher over an Annihilator. It gives you some real armour opening power especially if you put a tank commander in (or Pask!).

Given that they're the same points cost, I'd go for Vanquisher every time. That extra dice on the pen is going to be more useful than twin-linking.

Vanquisher all day. An annihilator won't reliably one shot av14. A Vanquisher will.

Against AV 14:

 

A Annihilator has a 75% chance to hit, followed by a 16,67% chance to penetrate = 12,5% chance to penetrate AV 14.

 

A Vanquisher has a 50% chance to hit, followed by a 58,34% chance to penetrate = 29,7% chance to penetrate AV 14.

 

Against AV 13:

 

A Annihilator has a 75% chance to hit, followed by a 33,33% chance to penetrate = 24,9% chance to penetrate AV 13.

 

A Vanquisher has a 50% chance to hit, followed by a 72,23% chance to penetrate = 36,1% chance to penetrate AV 13.

 

Against AV 12: ...use Autocannons. ;)

 

I'd take the Vanquisher.

Of course the odds go up if you add bs4 to the calculation. No one ever takes a vanquisher except on a TC.

Don't forget the Tank Commander option from the Forge World list, so you can get a Co-Axial Stubber. :)
