Automatic repairs?

Am I missing something, or is it possible to automatically repair vehicles with Enginseers and Servitors?

Let's say I put a Enginseer (or 3) in a unit of 4 Servitors with servoarms in a Chimera... or a Stormlord. happy.png

Will this Enginseer automatically repair a Hullpoint (or 3) now? The rules only state that he repairs on 5+, and that each servitor in the unit adds one to the roll, nothing of a roll of 1 always failing.

This is not a save nor an attack, so a roll of 1 should still be considered a 5, and hence a succesfull repair attempt - right or wrong?

Something that I noticed in the original post is that they could potentially be INSIDE the vehicle when making the repairs. Unless I have my rules mixed up again, I think they have to dismount before making repairs.

Yes, Enginseers (and Techmarines and Techpriests) can repair vehicles they are embarked upon, or in base contact with.  To be honest, 1+ repairs are cool but hardly gamebreaking given how easy it is to glance out vehicles in one round of shooting.  Can't repair a wrecked vehicle.

Well with 3 enginseers and 4 servitors it would be 3 guaranteed HP's per turn, which isn't too shabby on the Banehammer/Doomhammer/Stormlord, and they'll all be safe inside the vehicle untill it either is wrecked or explodes.

 

It's an additional 160 points to something which is already expensive though.

Yes we used to play a Stormlord with this techies team inside on a tournament. Put it on a Skyshield, add somthing shooty inside (we used 20 jokaeros "Monkey Lazer Show") and don't forget to use your most poker face during a game. Necrons were some trouble with their glance to death but The Emperor was looking at our side that game. The only killing thing for this was a Pre-Heresy Legion Glaive which was shooting inside of our tank. 

That's also nearly 1400pts, assuming no upgrades on anything... And even with 20 Jokearo inside, you wouldn't even destroy an Imperial Knight in a turn on average (BS3 Lascannons are pretty crap, and the Vulcan Mega Bolter can't even hurt the front armour of a Knight). Then it just walks over and chops you up with Strength D lol.

That's also nearly 1400pts, assuming no upgrades on anything... And even with 20 Jokearo inside, you wouldn't even destroy an Imperial Knight in a turn on average (BS3 Lascannons are pretty crap, and the Vulcan Mega Bolter can't even hurt the front armour of a Knight). Then it just walks over and chops you up with Strength D lol.

Well that was 2x2 tournament and every team had something like 2750-3000 points so that was affordable. And we had psykers with prescience and rending and other tricks. We did not met so called knights that day, but aquilla macro cannon was destroyed in first shooting phase.

Nope, just straight up 60" S6 AP3 Heavy 15.
