I'm trying to plan my SoB bases but have few ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As the thread title says I'm trying to decide on the bases for my Sisters of Battle army. I have only basic ideas on how I want them to look but nothing else. Any photos would be great :)

-Some colourful and pretty - We should all love the grimdark of the 40K universe, however I've always loved the more pretty, colourful art and models.

-Something simple - I'm not too great of a creative person so simple would be best.

-Flowers/scatter -I want to use flowers in the bases

Well, since many people use bases to offset their models, what do your models look like?

For example, lighter dusty reds and tans on a base look good against Dark Angels' green, but dark greys on the base have poor contrast against the same models and don't look as good (IMO).

Once we have a better idea of what you're basing, it is easier to make suggestions! :)

They're not painted yet but they will have black armour an either red or light purple robes

Right, well I think you probably want a light base in colour that doesn't clash than. I'd suggest a light tan/beige with some grass tufts and flowers used sparingly (lots of product examples here). These sorts of products are great: you just take what you need off the sheet with some tweezers, dab the bottom into a little bit of superglue, and place them on the base: done! :D

I'd stick with tuft-type products too, and just avoid the static grass/flock - these other products are messy to apply, hard to get looking good, and then spend the next decade dropping little bits off the base over everything else afterwards.

I also favour matte black base rims too; even on light colours. I feel this helps to "frame" the models, and again improves the overall contrast and look of the models on the tabletop.

You can also go for a jungle type base , i.e. a bit of small rocks and lightly coloured mud soil with bright green leaves, moss and lichens, where a few colourful flowers would.pop out, or.mushrooms. Jungles having a quite diverse flora also helps in making more varied or strange plants, flowers, and the bright, light colours would help your dark armors pop out.

You can find quite bright green mosses and lichens in model stores if you prefer not to paint too much .

Like this found on Google but I'd use a bit brighter colours to my taste :)

Or imagine her in black, she'd pop out quite well in this base :
