Goreshed
So how about we bring some more life into this forum? (Just ignore my WIP thread...I swear I'll add to it soon!) How about a lively discussion of the week for us mere mortal followers of Chaos? I've seen recently a number of new(ish?) people posting more here so let's keep the ball rolling! And winning ETL of course has got to be inspiring in and of itself for the third time!So...this weeks question...Given the many varied and creative incarnations of the Traitor rabble, which one do you think is the best? Which one do you think deserves the title of the 'best of the worst'? The Blood Pact from the Gaunts Ghost series? The traitors from Vraks? Perhaps the traitor guard depicted in the Macharian books? Maybe the Word Bearer's cultists from the 30k era? Lay
I'm a Vraksian at heart, but my vote for the best Traitor Guard army goes to the Haradni 13th Heavy Armoured Regiment - the biggest, baddest bunch of heretics you've probably never heard about. They're part of the lore from the Eye of Terror campaign that was never brought up again after the campaign ended. Let me quote "The 13th Black Crusade" background book (pg.73): "Medusa, the homeworld of the Iron Hands Chapter, lies close to the Eye of Terror, and was subject to constant attacks from the forces of the Despoiler from the earliest phase of the Black Crusade. Given that Medusa is the only world from which the lron Hands recruit new brethren, they were forced to defend it above all other considerations. Though at least two Iron Hands Clan Companies are known to have fought elsewhere in the defence of the region, the greater part of the Chapter confined its actions to their homeworld, where they fought a gruelling war to stem the tide of Chaos filth. At the height of the defence of Medusa, the gargantuan tracked fortress monasteries of the ten Clan Companies came together to face an armoured assault launched by traitors of the excommunicated Haradni 13th Heavy Armoured Regiment. The dark, polluted Iandscape of Medusa was host to one of the largest gatherings of armoured might since the Battle of Tallarn during the Horus Heresy, with over ten thousand traitor tanks arrayed against the Iron Hands. The ensuing battle reportedly raged for five days and nights, as armoured echelons consisting of thousands of tanks swept across the barren plains towards the mobile fortresses of the Iron Hands. When the fortresses' guns opened fire, it is said a hundred enemy battle tanks were destroyed, each Clan Company commanding the equivalent firepower of one of a Centurio Ordinatus of the Adeptus Mechanicus. At the height of the battle, on the fifth day, the enemy managed to break through the Iron Hands' lines, a single traitor armoured company outflanking, one of the massive mobile fortresses and unloading round after round of ordnance upon its more vulnerable rear from nigh-on point-blank range. The Iron Hands launched a furious counter-attack, assault squads armed with meltabombs launching themselves from the crenelated towers of the monastery to land atop the massed tanks. Many Iron Hands lost their lives in the counter-attack, shot down by the tanks' pintle-mounted weapons as they swooped in, or ground beneath their tracks as they made near suicidal charges against them in defence of the monastery. Despite the Iron Hands' losses, the counter-attack succeeded, disabling or destroying the majority of the traitor armour, and sending the remainder into a disorderly retreat. The Iron Hands then launched their own armoured assault on the traitors, massed formations of Predator Annihilators running down the enemy tanks and finishing them off with deadly-accurate lascannon fire." Sons of Sek ! One of the few armies in 40k with a theme song! Vesper
One of the few armies in 40k with a theme song! It sounds so Chaosy, feral. I love it. I tend to listen to it a lot when I paint. Hasrothrin
Blood Pact for me please. Not just your average rabble of scum but a well equipped, dedicated and well trained force which means business. At some point I would like to start a Blood Pact army using IA:13 with a demagogue with bloodyhanded reaver trait, which I think would be quite fluffy. Goreshed
Man Lay I completely forgot about them until you posted that up! A good choice no doubt! Sons of Sek also have a nice ring of that traitorous bell but man, my heart goes out to the originals that Abbnett brought to life, the Blood Pact. They are partly what I'm basing my own traitor regiment on and every time I read the Gaunts Ghost series I love them more and more. The EoT book was great for all those tidbits of fluff, specially when it came to the traitor regiments. Warsmith Uveron
I am a fan of the Slave Armys of Castellax, some very fun fluff... But any of the Auxiliary of the Iron Warriors are all good. Kilofix
The Pale Throng. No subtle cult or hidden conspiracy, the Pale Throng is a crazed and degenerate congregation of shambling horrors and decayed and sickening witch–breeds guided by sinister mutant overlords. Its only goal is to throw off the shackles of its oppression and visit bloody vengeance in an apocalyptic rebellion to destroy the Imperium and ultimately seize control of the future of mankind. http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Q8GW30dhV5k/V8Ts0Lc77UI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/TjFR1azowe8/s2048-no/IMG_2048.PNG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325211-traitorous-question-of-the-week-week-910-22/#findComment-4483910 Share on other sites
Blackheart1223
Seeing as I'm a fan of all things Red Corsairs I'd have to say The Tyrant's Legion. The image of poorly trained infantry being herding onto the waiting guns of the enemy by their cruel Astartes overlords is pretty evocative. Reaver Lord Soul
It's got to be the Blood Pact for me, the Gaunt's Ghosts series just showed me that it's not just the Chaos Space Marines who can be the big players as it were but also the little guys :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325211-traitorous-question-of-the-week-week-910-22/#findComment-4484236 Share on other sites

Greenz
Blood Pact for me as well. Until I read the 1st and Only series, I always pictured Khorne worshippers as frenzied maniacs, with little to no regard for anything but getting close and killing. Abnett did a great job fleshing the Pact out, and really changed my perspective on them. Ever since the EoT book all those years ago, I've had an itch to make a traitor guard army. I'll be starting a KDK army soon as a side project, and that'll probably segway into a renegade army, which will largely be inspired by the Pact Edit: Gorrched, this Question of the Week is a great idea. I've been lurking about the LatD for a while. There's so much potential for this army, but unfortunatley it's not a very lively forum yet. Hopefully this helps get conversation going Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325211-traitorous-question-of-the-week-week-910-22/#findComment-4484244 Share on other sites

Though the rules for them do use the normal Codex I agree they are kinda fun. It helps that my regular opponents have no problem with me using CSM rules for the Astartes portion of the list. It lets me play with Renegades as I slowly build them up to their own force. Goreshed
The Sabbat Worlds Crusade and all of the arch - warlords are a great example of the variances of the traitor guard, just as much as those listed in the EoT book. Goreshed
Well folks another week has gone by...time for a new traitorous question of the week! We have IA:13, we have Siege of Vraks, we even have count as with the Astra Militarum 'dex. So this weeks question is simple. With the upcoming release of the 13th Black Crusade (because the last 13th BC didn't count I guess...) what new unit would you like to see for the traitorous mortal horde of chaos? Greenz
Either stalk tanks or those little gyro disco balls of laser fun from "His Last Command". Goreshed
I love the idea of the stalk tanks and roller derby balls, start with a defiler chasis for the stalks and a doom wheel from the AOS side and bam! Given the variants of the traitorous hordes of armour and such from the Gaunt's Ghost series I dearly hope GW will get some inspiration to give us some of those (malcador...ok something, its pretty cool but damn FW prices!) but who knows. We shall see.... So, this is a bit early (hell I might make this a more common thing at it seems to be well liked) but with my wedding tomorrow and a little get away for the weekend I wanted to make sure no one would miss out. Let's get out them fight'n words! Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh, Tzeetch? Which one do you think gives the most creative, disgustingly amazing, or down right devious life to a follower of Chaos? Maybe all of them are best, maybe just one or two of them, but what's the best of the best? Give a write up of something as to why, the one that gets the most likes will be the winner*! *Disclaimer...I can only offer you internet cookies from the warp, blessed by all the gods...unless someone wants to make up something, but its the thought that counts right? Goreshed
Alright I'll give my input for the last weeks TQW.... It's Nurgle of course! http://i.imgur.com/Bq9KuI3.png Who doesn't love Nurgle hugs? Seriously, Papa Nurgle is generous in the extreme and loves to share. He doesn't want your head, he doesn't want you to kill everyone else, he just wants you to share! Sharing is caring right?! But onto the next TQW! Renegade armies tend to be a lot of kit bashed models put together because GW doesn't like us too much and FW tends to get expensive. What is your favorite kitbash? What kits do you think give the best look for our army? Castellan Cato
Anything that starts with the empire flagellants usually turns out fantastic. I use them with parts from Victoria miniatures and GW for any guys that don't have MT. Anything that does comes from a huge lot of FW guys I got off eBay.
