Fury of the Ancients

Cadmus Tyro

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

I thought I would create a thread dedicated to our immortal brothers. I had the idea whilst discussing the leviathans and deredeos in the army list forum. I started to realise, despite my appreciation for tactics, I make decisions on new units based on aesthetics and anecdotes of past battles and kill counts. I think it would be great to have a collection of dreadnoughts with accompanying fluff and recent battlefield performances (although I appreciate there is a topic already going in the "hall of fame", I want to hear about their exploits and backstory!) In the end, I might just be able to choose between the Deredeo and the leviathan!

So, I invite you to post a picture of your dreadnought with a short story and/or a recent anecdote of his performance on the field of battle. All dreadnought types are welcome, if you have posted them before it would would be good to have them here as well. Fully painted or WIPs, all are welcome.

Let's kick things off.

Tyran Lercaan , the immortal cursed with immortality. Tyran previously served in clan Vurgaan's 63rd void assault breacher squad. Following poor squad performance, relating in no small part to assisting failing elements of the imperial army during the compliance of One-Five-Four Four, Tyran and his squad were relegated to the ranks of the immortals, tasked with winning back the previous honour bestowed upon the squad.

Further failure afflicted the 63rd squad, being slaughtered to a man during a daring frontal assault. Ferrus Manus himself dragged Tyran's broken body from the field of battle, insistent Tyran be interred within the sarcophagus of a dreadnought, as a mark of shame rather than honour.

Confined within the shell of a cortus class contemptor dreadnought, the pain of his battle wounds an ever present reality, Tyran served for 54 years by Ferrus's side. Achieving many battle honours but never the forgiveness of his father. He was declined the honour of accompanying Ferrus Manus to Istvaan V, all hope of forgiveness is now lost......

Recent engagement:

Location - Hab block 16, Archanus secondus.

Opponent - alpha legion

Unit performance - Tyran managed to destroy a unit of catphractii terminators and a veteran tactical squad before succumbing to volkite cross fire.

That's a beautiful looking contemptor Cadmus, I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread to see what else you come up with :tu:

Thanks man, I was hoping a few others would add their creations to the thread. I just want to see what success everyone else has had with their dreadnoughts!

I can only echo what IHF said: that's a beautiful dreadnought, Cadmus! Lovely fluff too. :tu:

I've actually got a Contemptor in the pipeline right now: Justici Reynault Zahn, attached to 1 Wallbreaker, Wallbreaker Cohort, 284th Storm Battalion, VII Legion. As soon as he's finished I'll make sure to post him up in this thread!

Cheers! Looking forward to seeing Justici Reynault Zahn, sounds like he's going to have some interesting background.

@RandomMarine - I'm liking the red contrast, is it based on the Morragul clan scheme? Or do you have your own background going on? How is the Deredeo performing on the field?

@ The God Potato of mankind - love the way your contemptor seems to be effortlessly bisecting a world eater, looking for his next target. Flame effects on the right shoulder guard look great too. Have you had chance to field him yet?

The red predates clan morragul IRL as its the scheme for my successor chapter so I copied it into 30k to link the 2 armies together and it made sharing fw Goodie's between them easier. Then the black book came out so now my 30k army is a clan moragul company that will eventually split off and do their own thing

Meet Bob from accounting, he was interred in his leviathan to help with the legions taxes. lately Bob like sunny walks on the beach and chopping at cerastus knights ankles to great effect.

Is this for Dreadnoughts of the Heresy or are Non contemptor/leviathan/deredro allowed?

Hi mate, I'm no moderator but I will give you my humble opinion on things. Castraferrum pattern dreadnoughts (standard box dreadnought) were used by the legions during the heresy so if that's what you mean by a non heresy dread I would feel free to post it. However, we are in the AoD forum, so I would encourage you to use legion weapon loadouts/backstory/scheme etc. I'm as interested in seeing the back story for your dreads as I am the actual pics!

Hope that helps?

At last, an accountant I can respect! Like the colour scheme.

Brother Techscion

IMG_3191.JPG

The late Amadeus Telcion, a senior Sergeant in the 15th Chapter of the XIIIth Legion, had a long and storied history stretching from the early days of Unification to the dying days of the Great Crusade. He was eventually felled during the Invasion of Liscia while leading the Metaeans, a hand-picked Recon team.

Failing to recover from grievous plasma wounds, Telcion was incorporated into the Dreadnought chassis Magna Malo. In his new guise as Techsion, he served during alongside his old Chapter, his first awakening during void conflict with the Nekulli. Techscion served during numerous Compliances in the dying years of the Great Crusade, tirelessly expanding the borders of Ultramar to the galactic North with the bulk of the 15th, before being transferred to serve on the Eastern fringes.

The yellow and brown chequers on the right-shoulder are a record of his service during the Hypon campaign.

This pict-capture shows him during the early Heresy period, immediately prior to the Calth Atrocity. Note the markings on the kneeplate denoting his secondment to the 190th; a new Company of inductees where he operated in support of Tactical Squad Secundus.

Contemptor Dreadnought Ancient Daegron

http://i57.tinypic.com/2m81en9.jpg

An original Warhound from Terra who fought since the foundation of the Legion, he reported critical wounds after Hierotzelem's self destruction and was interred in one of the recently issued Contemptor Pattern Dreadnoughts.

At first he was a well esteemed veteran among the 16th, and even Thanatos often sought his wisdom, but when Angron's hand reshaped the Legion, not being able to receive the Nails isolated him from the once respectful Merciless.

He was left alone, with High Codicer Verjell and the other outcasts from the Librarium, to remember the times of the Old Legion and see the new one fall into corruption before his eyes.

By the time of Isstvan III the Contemptor's machine spirit had put its capricious roots deep into the warrior's consciousness, who was now awaken by his forgetful brothers only when war called as a weapon to be used and then restrained without remorse.

His in-game notable achieviements are the killing of a few terminators, a moritat, a centurion and a praetor in Zone Mortalis Games.

He's just leathal on isolated/short numbered units and heroes.

@apologist - that is one sweet contemptor, love the weathering an detailing to the helmet, I've always liked the look of the heavy bolter arms for the contemptor. Great fluff as well, enjoyed reading it. Will we be seeing your Deredeo on here as well?

Deployed on the black sands, he supported the XIIIth in guarding legion craft from traitor assault, allowing loyalist elements to fall back to them, was critically damaged but recovered and restored to operational status during the XIII's journey from the atrocity.

My Sons of Horus Contemptor remains one of the few models I've fully painted (shameful I know).

Once a Cthonian gang member, Kalbus showed excellent marksmanship scores during the legion intake and was inducted into the heavy support squads, where he quickly rose to sergeant as his squad racked up a large tally of vehicle kills. His proficiency with a Lascannon was so renowned that when he was almost killed by a loyalist World Eater on Istvaan III, his wrecked and maimed body was interred into a Contemptor Mortis with his preferred Lascannons, his Primarch sensing his vehicle destroying skills would serve usefully in the coming war.

Edit: that's the first time I've ever tried to write a backstory for a model. My respect for people like BCK and Hyenidae and everyone else who does it a lot and so well has gone up even more. Took me about an hour just to sort out the name.

Props for running the Twin-Heavy Bolters Apologist, you never see those!

Being a contrary so-and-so, I've always had a soft spot for Heavy Bolters, even if they've gradually got less and less useful as the game's gone on. sad.png

Great idea for a thread, by the way :)

Great idea for a thread, by the way :)

I view the HB/DCCW armed Dreads to be the closest thing to an up-armored regular marine. Basically the best version of a standard marine you could be.

@rune priest Ridcully - love the markIV Castraferrum chassis, it's aesthetic inspired my journey into the heresy in the early badab war days! Post it up with the brass etch when it arrives!

@Khârn the bloody - can't go wrong with dual kheres, my alpha dread with a single kheres makes a mess of terminators....

@fire golem - nice posing, fits with the SoH theme of mobile but brutal spear tip assault. I know the feeling of not painting quickly, I finally settle on a scheme and then change mind or find my skills have increased and I have to repaint my old stuff. Any plans for a scars dreadnought?

@ apologist - cheers, seems popular so far. Liking the rest of the talon!

I hadn't specifically thought about a Scars dread, but now I want to do one! I love Dreads (well, Contemptors, Deredeos and Leviathans, I don't like the boxy dreads) so I'll probably end up with one from every legion seeing as I can't pick a legion still! I might wait and see if the Scars book says anything about dreads, I know in the old lore they don't use them, but I could see them being used if there are some from the Terran Vth legion left, or maybe even used as some kind of punishment in the legion.
