So in an epic case of bandwagon jumping I've thrown my lot in with the Deathwatch. Have always loved the background and saw it as the perfect opportunity to collect a loyalist force. Means I don't have to pick just one chapter, I can use all the bits and pieces I've collected over the years. Saying that, this isn't going to be a massive army like my chaos force. Anyway enough babbling here's what I have built so far,

So basically the contents of the Deathwatch Overkill box and a couple of extras. Namely assassins and some transports.

The Landraider and Rhino were bought from a guy at my club ages ago to be converted to chaos but I think a Redeemer fits the style of the Xenos hunters perfectly so it will soon be taking the black.

Here's what I've vowed for the Deathwatch painting challenge in the Astartes forum.

Termi Captain, still needs the blingy but on top of his armour and I may switch out the head. Not sure yet, but I think I'd like him to be looking the other way.

Here the first kill team I've vowed. I converted the Librarian slightly by adding a Blood Angels pad and head with rebreather. None of my marines will be completely bareheaded. They'll have at least a rebreather. I figure the environments the DW usually operate in the air isn't going to be too fresh. Plus I have a dislike for bare heads.....Protect the noggin! The Dark Angel still needs some work.

Here's the first Venerable dread. I may build another will see how it gets on in game. He will ride in a Drop Pod once I build it. I have plans for the Drop pod as well to further show its allegiance. My thoughts for this guy is he was a former Mortifactor or Star Phantom who was grievously injured in service to the Deathwatch and was interred in a dread chassis so he may enact his eternal revenge.

And here the rest of the Overkill box, I'm waiting on a delivery with a few bits in so I can replace the Chaplains helm.

I still have the Death Masque box to build as well as two drop pods and a Corvus Blackstar.

For one of my other Kill Teams I'm going to be taking a lot of inspiration from the Deathwatch:Tyranid Invasion game. I have a screen shot here to show the first few guys. A little gutted that Apothecaries aren't included in the DW codex but I'll probably still build him for rule of cool.

Weapons load outs will change but I'll try and stay as close as possible to these guys.

Here's a little sneak peek at what I have for Cyrus so far, I'm waiting on some Sternguard coming so I can switch out his legs.

So that's all I have so far. :)

Let me know if you have any suggestions or comments.

And for those having a little silent freak out, there will be an update on Angron in my WE thread by the end of next week ;)

So far, so excellent. Really keen to see where this goes.

May I ask where the skull helm on the Dreadnought comes from? I really like the use of the BA head on the Librarian, btw - makes the figure a lot more interesting just by giving it a more unique look and by altering the angle of the head.

Holy censored.gif That's AWESOME work! jawdrop.gif The libby is especially sexy. I may have to find a way to sneak the Kill Team Cassius set into the house under my wife's nose... I had thought the models in that team weren't kitbash-friendly...

That is such an awesome start.

You know I personally went back and forth between using some of my Ultramarine's bits in my Deathwatch. And then I got the Kill Team box and just loved it... loved the bitz, and the Inquisition iconography so I was kind of talking myself out of it.... now I see what you've done here and I am teetering back on that idea of pulling my Ultra Sternguard into the Deathwatch. lol

I too am a fan of the Deathwatch on my iPad... that and Freeblade. I got a lot of inspiration for my Knights from that game, and I intend to do the same with the Deathwatch Tyranid invasion.

Looking forward to your progress. Have you got any games in yet?

Good luck, and may the Xenos perish in your presence. ;)

Thanks for the replies folks.

Prot, there's another couple of data slates I've loved for a long time and will probably fold them into this project. One of which is Tyrannic War Vets and the other is the Legion of the Damned. I'll probably only be a squad of each although I love the idea of the TWV formation with the Storm Talons providing air support. As for the DW kill team, I don't think I'll use the mk8 armour. I can't get used to the way the helmets look. Although in saying that mine are all still on the sprue so I may feel differently once I start building. Although using Tyranid Invasion as reference like the way the marines armour is very chapter specific with added I icons. I have a lot of DA, some BA and a couple of SW and Ultramarine bits so I plan to make use of them.

For those asking about the skull on the Dread it's actually from the Lord of Skulls kit (HERESY!!) it's one of the weapon options. I drilled out the eyes, added a lens from a devastator marine to mimic the symbol. Removed the lower jaw and filled it with all sorts of cabling and piping from anywhere I could find. If I can get gs casting to work I'll add a small I symbol to the forehead. I should add that I dug out all the marine body and gubbins in the dread torso. I've done this a few other times on my chaos dreads so knew it would work here.

The Overkill box can be kit bashed, head swaps are ridiculously easy. Arm and weapon swaps shouldn't prove too difficult either. Only one so far I've had an issue with is the DA head but that's just personal preference and again if I can get a decent cast of a rebreather it'll be added. ;)

Haven't gotten a game in yet. Hoping to get one arranged soon.

OSS, the Knights are a couple of weeks away but they will be updated very soon as well. Still getting all my stuff unpacked but I will get to them soon. :tu:

Thanks buddy.

Tiny update, managed to build Artemis before work today and my GW order arrived so I can finally give Cassius the helmet I wanted to.

He also got some more buddy's to hang out with.

I'll be removing the heads from the TWV and using my dremel to clear the neck socket out replacing them with helmets.

Thanks buddy.

The skulls on the legs I got from a Chinese eBay seller a few years back. I don't think he's still active but you used to be able to get 20 of them for about £1. I'll have a hunt and see if I can find the seller.

Well, buddy, I'm not going to lie: I would love to see more Angron from you, but then, on the other hand, your talent for converting and kitbashing has already turned this into yet another excellent project of yours, so I am intrigued ;)

The Dread is definitely the star of the show for me: Your Dreads always have a distinctive look of greater mobility and agency, and this guy is no exception. Great job on the head and details as well -- I love how he almost seems like a loyalist re-interpetation of your WE Dreads!

Cyrus needs bulkier legs, but it seems like you are already on top of that. There's one thing that makes my heart bleed, however, and that's the helmet on Artemis: He is such an iconic 54mm character for me that I just cannot bear to see him with a helmet, but maybe that's just me ;)

Anyway, a fantastic start! Maybe you could work on these guys and one Angron at the same time, though? Just sayin'... ;)
