Need advice on Chapter Names

I'm working on two DIY Chapter's right that I'm trying to work on name's for.

The first is a New England Puritan-themed Raven Guard descendent. Right now I'm currently thinking that the symbol will be a lantern with lit flame in it.

The other chapter I'm thinking about is a distrusted Dark Angels descendant, who are a 'bit more feral than their cultured forebears in the Unforgiven and are distrusted because of that.

I think their both good ideas, but I'm having trouble coming up with names and would appreciate help.

Hello!

I like the Puritan idea, opens up your Chapter to some zealous, Ecclesiarchal, pragmatic Astartes. If that's the part of Puritan you want to take, I don't know if that's what you were going for. Like the sound of the Chapter symbol. Out of curiosity, why Raven Guard?

How 'feral' are the DA successors? Like full on beast mode, flesh tearer savagery or just white scar tribalism?

Without knowing much more on their characters, here's a few suggestions;

1) Reformers, Wardens of Light, Emperor's Vanguard

2) Dark Lions, Angels of Fury, Claws of Aldurukh

Now I never checked to see if these exist, in most cases I doubt it but you never know. Give us a little more info and we can start homing in on a name more related to who they are.

Lamplighters for the first one.

In the days when city streets were lit by lamps, a group of men went around every night and lit them by hand. They saw it as doing their part to keep the darkness at bay. They were known as lamplighters.

Kind of seems like Imperial Fists via Black Templars might be a better funding legion than Raven Guard. When I think "New England Puritan" one of the first thing that comes to mind is the Salem Witch Trials. Could have them dedicated to hunting down and killing rogue psykers. Suffer not the witch to live, and all that.

I'm drawing a blank on the DA successor. Good luck with it.

Since I posted this, I've been thinking Lions of Caliban, but I do like the Claws of Aldurukh name. There meant to be more fleshtearers savagery mixed with a the more feral animalism, such that they're mistrusted by the Inner Circle.

I really like the idea of the Lamplighters, which fits the chapter symbol, and I also like the idea of them being more Fists, Black Templar successors, since I'd just chosen Raven Guard for the Edgar Allen Poe - Nevermore - Corax connection

"Sons of Solomon" seems appropriate for a Puritan-theme Astartes Chapter, for two reasons:

1) It's a reference to the Song of Solomon, a Bible book. (The Puritans were famously devout.)

2) It's a reference to Solomon Kane, a fictional Puritan who wanders the world, seeking evil to vanquish- a sentiment a Space Marine will certainly appreciate.

Grendel Slayers or Sons of Heorot, for the DA successor- Caliban was beset by monsters, and Grendel is one of the most famous monsters in human myth.  Has overtones of heroic slaying, with a touch of barbarism.  Also, historically the story of Beowulf was told by pre-Christian bards, then written down by monks who took a lot of the heathen overtones out of it (which is reminiscent of the DA's history being scrubbed after the destruction of Caliban).

I really like Sons of Solomon for the Puritan chapter.  Lantern-Bearers or Lightbringers could work, as well.  Lamplighters is good, too.

You could even use both, 'Sons of (whatever)' could be their official Chapter name, but even Astartes forces sometimes get nicknames used by themselves/others, maybe 'Lamplighters' could be a moniker of some kind based on their Chapter badge or cult?

Good idea.

"Lightbringer" is an appropriate nickname for a Dark Angels descendant, as it's a reference to Lucifer, the Fallen Angel- reminding the Dark Angels how they almost fell, why they're Unforgiven, and why they must continue fighting to redeem their honor. "Lamplighters" seems derogatory, i.e., something a Fallen Angel or Chaos Marine would call them- "Is that all you're good for? Lighting lamps? You're fools to continue serving the Corpse that calls itself 'Emperor.'"
