Brother Aiwass
Hi, I would like to replicate the bare metal, unpolished metallic grey that appears in the image below: http://i.4cdn.org/tg/1473000528729.png Any ideas on how to achieve it? Thx! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325505-how-to-paint-metallic-grey/ Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
I'd grab some bare pads and experiment with mixes. Different Greys, different Metallics. I'd start with 70-80% Administratum Grey to 20-30% Leadbelcher Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325505-how-to-paint-metallic-grey/#findComment-4490467 Share on other sites
Aspecti
Or just buy Metallic Medium, mix it with your paint of choice and you have a metallic color of your choice. shaun03
yeah liquitex ( check spelling) makes metallic medium works great for most colors, if your state side most art and crafts stores carry and often have coupons for deep discounts as well. Or go old school, get a metal paint and pour it stainer and fish out the metal flakes. The new metal paints make this almost not worth it tho because the got the flakes down to micro level. The older GW paints this was easy, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325505-how-to-paint-metallic-grey/#findComment-4490661 Share on other sites
M@verik115
What I did for my black templars is a boltgun metal base followed by layering of diluted black ink.It will give you the above effect if you mix about 40:60 black ink and water. Major_Gilbear
Paint the area using silver mixed with a *little* grey. Then matte varnish Then glaze in the shadows The matte varnish kills most of the silver's shine, but still leaves it looking metallic. It's also really simple to acheive! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325505-how-to-paint-metallic-grey/#findComment-4490784 Share on other sites
Brother Aiwass
Wow, great tips everyone! Also lots of different approaches. Will try in a couple of weeks in random shoulder pads, thanks a lot! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325505-how-to-paint-metallic-grey/#findComment-4490996 Share on other sites
Brother Clavero
Actually, this is the color that I've always envisioned as a proper "gunmetal grey"! Evil Eye
Tamiya's Titanium Silver is quite similar to what you're looking for (I think).
