MaxZ
Hi guys here is a tester for my ultras. Will be doing pre heresy mostly mk3, but only extra model I had for marines was this mk7 model. I am clueless when it comes to buying a gold that will work well with them. Any suggestions? I plan on either doing true metal, and on the characters I will blend it into the highlight shade. On regular marines I would prefer to just wash>edge highlight. http://i.imgur.com/hEVlFKtl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/dENsiKfl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zetFZa2l.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325524-heres-my-blue-please-help-me-pick-a-gold/ Share on other sites
Space Truckin
Got any more info? Like the gold paints you have? Do you use strictly Vallejo / GW / brand X paints? What kinda look are you going for in the end - heavy weathered / vs knight in shining armour etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325524-heres-my-blue-please-help-me-pick-a-gold/#findComment-4492112 Share on other sites
Chaplain Gunzhard
The very newest GW metallics aren't bad - but I swear by Vallejo Model Colour... base VMC Brass, wash however you like (I do green over entire gold area, riek-fleshade on "shadow" areas, and nuln oil in the 'crevasses' -- but just simple black or brown wash would be fine), first highlight VMC Gold, final highlight VMC Gold mixed with VMC Silver. I did a HUGE comparison of gold brands a while back prior to painting my Sanguinary Guard... if you're interested: http://atticwars40k.blogspot.com/2011/10/great-gold-rush-quest-for-best-gold.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325524-heres-my-blue-please-help-me-pick-a-gold/#findComment-4492295 Share on other sites
Razblood
If you're sticking with GW then Retributor Armour with a Liberator Gold highlight and a sepia shade should do the job. With Vallejo its Glorious Gold with a Polished Gold highlight and a Flesh Ink wash. You can also add a few extreme glints with the silver of your choice. Either of these will produce a nice rich gold which will complement the tone of blue you are using :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325524-heres-my-blue-please-help-me-pick-a-gold/#findComment-4492868 Share on other sites
Closet Skeleton
Yellow. The best armour trim for Ultramarines is yellow, its just a company colour like the others. Though recently I've been doing some weird thing where I go GW Balthazar Gold -> Coat d'arms bright gold highlight -> GW Auric Armour Gold drybrush -> GW Agrax Earthshade Gloss. But I've always been disappointed with every Vallejo paint I've ever bought and can't blend at all so I'm probably not someone to trust.
