Darkn3ssF4lls
I just got a hobby lamp, it came with this bulb. This is fluorescent where I was using a incandescent to start my journey. I know there are some really nice bulbs out there but dont expect this to be one of them. http://i.imgur.com/CZJHG04.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325532-is-this-a-good-bulb/ Share on other sites
Grim Dog Studios
I believe flourescent light is actually better to use than incandescent when painting. At least thats what it says here: http://www.wargamingtradecraft.com/2011/03/lighting-your-hobby-area.html?m=1 Hooe that helps! Space Truckin
I think it has more to do with the color temp. of the bulb. Incandescents are more of a "soft" light adding a warm color - which is not so great for painting. Whites will take on a yellowish brown look, blues look darkers but reds pop more kinda thing. Florescent lights and LEDs come in a temperature range. They can be soft or all the way up to UV. Is their any other markings on the package? I'm sure it'll be an improvement. Personally I like the cooler range 4500-5500k as its more like daylight - whites look more like white etc. These are the lights I use for photography and for the same reason I'm using them for painting. edit: Wulox nailed it on the head with fewer words! Edit Edit: just did a quick Google search on that particular bulb and it looks great for painting :tu: Spec sheet says - 5500 - 5900k daylight. NovemberIX
OttLite lamps are great quality, the bulbs are designed to output as close to natural Sol wavelengths as possible. I use it by itself often enough, but to get the best mix of wavelengths, I also use a halogen and an LED lamp to fill in the rest of the spectrum.
