Bloody Legionnaire
To anyone who has used the FW transfers.. how do they compare in quality to the GW transfers? Are they as much of a pain to use as the GW? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325721-forge-world-transfers/ Share on other sites

Torvak Kyre
Unlike the GW ones they don't have the film already in shape around the transfers meaning that you have to cut much closer to the image to get a tidy transfer. Allart01
I've actually found them easier to use. Over the years, I've seen GW transfers splatter, break, even crumple on themselves because of a wrong movement (yes, I know, I suck). When I tried FW's, nothing of this happened, and I also noticed a better adherence to the models (expecially on round surfaces). At least, this is my experience as a person who never really managed to use GW's transfers. Maybe it was a random chance that I found FW's so much easier. Maybe it wasn't. Darkn3ssF4lls
I might be side tracking this topic and i'm sorry, why use transfers vice painting the symbols on ? I understand it is difficult [having not done it yet] but isn't that more satisfying ? Major_Gilbear
They are more uniform, and can also permit much finer and much more intricate detail than many people can paint by hand. Mostly though, it's uniformity/consistency. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325721-forge-world-transfers/#findComment-4498438 Share on other sites

Ovidius Incertus
FW transfers are considerably better than most of the GW transfers I've used, especially the generic (and old!) batch that comes in with your Space Marine infantry boxes or vehicles. They're thinner and definitely less shiny when applied, so you get way less ghost edge, even using MicroSol/Set, than the GW transfers give. That said, the transfers from the Imperial Knight box are better than the Space Marine boxes that I've used, so maybe there's internal variation in the GW ones too. This all says nothing of how much more detailed and varied the FW sheets are, especially the new ones. Bloody Legionnaire
Moved to General PCA. TY I might be side tracking this topic and i'm sorry, why use transfers vice painting the symbols on ? I understand it is difficult [having not done it yet] but isn't that more satisfying ? I like sharper and more accurate details than brushes can create (or recreate for that matter) and decal transfers are a lot easier to work with and much more consistent. It's weird, I've built plastic models all my life and never had an issue with decals until I got into warhammer I concluded GWs transfers just aren't up to par in comparison to the asian model companies. After receiving my FW decals though I must say they definitely appear to be higher quality than GWs. I'm excited to try them out! Kisada
My first experience with FW decals was with the old Black Templar sheet ... they were cool but getting it to look painted on was a bit difficult. With the new Imperial Fists transfers (and also with a new decal process) I was able to achieve results that look like they are really painted on. No weird silvering, Now I don't know if this is because of the new process I was using or because of a difference in the transfer sheet quality, I still have the BT ones so I'll have to try them and see. As for the new process, I always used micro sol and micro set ... but this time I followed instructions from Dr Faust. I started by gloss coating the model with future. Place decal with Micro Set first ... then press down with an old T shirt (be careful here because you cannot reposition it after. Repeat this Micro Set and T Shirt process until you get the decal to lay very flat (takes a bit longer on the rounded shoulder pads). Then finish it off with some Micro Sol to really soften the decal. Here is a picture of my recent squad ... if anyone wants a close up of the decals I'll try to take a picture of that http://i.imgur.com/moSpq4u.jpg?1 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325721-forge-world-transfers/#findComment-4498726 Share on other sites
