Kastellen Power Blades?

so I'm in love with 30k Castellex, and I'm planning on using them in a lot more games than the 40k versions of the robots, but I have the problem that I already spent 150$ on Kastellen robots. Most of my opponents are fine with me using them, but I have a nagging feeling deep down that I need to add something to make them a lot more believable, and I have thought of the idea of giving them sort of bayonetts under the two gun arms.

Only problem is I have no clue what to use. I want it to be something more than super gluing two power swords under their guns. I tried buying some plastic gears from a science store but those are not able to be cut as much as I would like using my current clippers. Is there any advice on how to get some believeable looking blades?

Have you tried plasticard? You can shape as much as you want and the only real limit is your imagination.

For the gears, if you have a small saw (should be able to get a razor saw or jewellers saw from a local hobby/craft store) you should be able to cut easier than clippers. I tend to use clippers for areas I'm not bothered about keeping and the saw when I want precision and control.

Do you have any specific look that you're going for, or something to enhance the look while representing the weapons?

Perhaps some of the eldar blade weapons from the harlequins might work - long and slender, but sturdy enough to work maybe?

I have thought about plastic card but I don't know if I have the tools to cut and shape it that well on my current budget.

as for look, I think something like the chainsaws below the thallax guns would be cool, while not exactly being those things.

Why not try some Ork chainswords? Cheap, brutal-looking, different from Imperial chainswords, and yet they still look "good" (as in, not ramshackle) enough to suit the robots.

You know.... That is crazy enough to work methinks! I just have to unbury some of my orc stuff, but I think I could do that!

sorry for the dfouble post but I thought I would explain my problem more, with a pic of someone else's bots for reference:

right now the cogs, both metal and plastic, are just not fitting right under the barrel, which has very limited room between that and the magazine. The shell ejector is on the outside too, just like in the pic, so It would be either hard to cover that up or my hidden answer for this whole thing. Right now nothing (tried cogs, plastic skeleton spear tip and sword) is fitting under that gun, and it's starting to frustrate me quite a bit because I had a cool idea that now seems juuuust out of my reach.

Do you have any of the older style marine combat knives lying around? I'm thinking you could use something like that to create a mini-dread claw effect. Not sure if that matches what you are looking for exactly but I think it could fulfill the power blade requirement

As long as you have a sharp knife, steel ruler (so the knife dosent destroy it) a pencil and files you're fine.

There was a great tutorial on here somewhere (can't find at the moment) where you cut an approximate size and shape, draw the weapon onto the plasticard, and then basically use a small file to take away the excess until you meet the lines.

it's great for making any type of custom weapon.

Here's a link to a tutorial on Dakka which has the same principles

Quick photoshop to show what I was thinking of:

Of course, the scale might be a little off, and you will undoubtedly need to trim and pin the chainswords on, but it's pretty easy to do.

Alternatively, you could get a Dreadnought's hand and cut the fingers off; arranging them around the bevelled area around the gun. You would need to assume that the gun muzzle is retractable in order for the fingers to reach anything, but it is again an easy and quick/cheap conversion to do that conveys what your after well enough.
