Icechiang's Deathwatch Plog

Hello everyone!  Long time lurker and this is my very first PLOG.  I have played marines, space wolves, and IG before and never joined any of the painting challenges.  When the Deathwatch came out with a codex I immediately got excited.  I always wanted to have a Deathwatch army when I first learned of them and am very happy now you can.  I have only played one game so far and got stomped horrendously but didn't have a very strong list so that's ok.  I just love the fluff and the style of the Deathwatch.  I have completed two marines from my new 1000 point list.  If people want to see the list or hear about my game feel free to ask.  Critiques and feedback about my models are welcome, I am not the best of painters but try to get better every time.

I will eventually get to making some fluff of my watch post and the marines!

@TempestBlade

Thanks!  I really like the new scenic bases for the vets and power armor guys.  I didn't get the ones for terminators because I don't think I will have that many of them.  I tried to replicate the feel for them so they look similar.  The game I had was pretty one sided.  I made a random list with the new stuff I got when the models first came out so I didn't even have the flyer.  It was basically Artemis, the Watch Commander, the named Dread, and a mishmash of dudes.  I went against a well optimized Tau list and got obliterated.  However I had a squad that did wonders.  5 man squad with two stalkers and an infernus with a librarian.  First turn he cast the ignore cover power on them and they wiped out a pathfinder squad.  The next turn a squad of kroot outflanked behind them.  They flamed have the squad to death and wiped the rest on the charge.  I have made a new 1000 point list that I think will work well hopefully and aim to play in 2 weeks with it.

@Vel'Cona

Yeah!  Love Iron Snakes and that shoulder pad was my first attempt at free hand.  I think it turned out well.  If we could take apothecaries I would totally make one an Iron Snake.

I don't care what the codex says, I took an Apothecary from the Red Scorpions as a random bolter Veteran. He's just some nice flavor for the unit, and if anyone makes a stink I'll just say his Narthecium is a close combat weapon. tongue.png

Finished 4 more marines last night.  Happy with the kitbashes and how things are turning out.  The Dark Angel and the Crimson Fist have my converted stalker bolter.  I cut off the tips of a smoke launcher bit and glued it on the bolter after cutting off the tip.  I think it looks pretty darn good if I say so myself.  So this is my first unit done: 4 stalker bolter marines and an infernus heavy bolter.  I usually will make an Aquila Kill Team with them joined by a divination Librarian.  Comments and critiques welcome!

I think that's the best stalker bolter conversion I've seen.

Gonna echo that one! I was originally going to steal another conversion idea based on Grey Knight Interceptor backpacks, then another with Sicarian Infiltrator Flechette Blaster barrels; hang all that, I have TONS of smoke launchers in my bitz box and this conversion looks the closest to the GW model! Great work, m8! biggrin.png

Thanks! Yeah I am sure everyone has a lot of those smoke launcher bits. I was rooting through my box and was like, "Hey, these may work with some filing." I was nervous at first because I haven't really converted to this degree before and actually mauled the first tube haha. However I was able to make the other two work and am quite satisfied. Not to mention that we can have stalker bolters that aren't being reloaded. I like how it looks but having the whole squad reload at the same time is a touch silly. I'm glad I can share something others can use.

Maybe they're a squad in Dawn of War? tongue.png

Haha fair enough. Actually deathwatch marines are like the ones from dawn of war. They can take four heavy weapons in a squad!

That's true!

Time for an update.  I finished a Brazen Claw and Knight of the Raven bolter marines.  Then took a pic of my standard long range squad of 4 stalker bolters and the infernus heavy bolter.  Finally a picture of all the marines I have painted so far.  It has been nice to get back to painting.  My very first marine army was mostly black and it is gratifying to see how better I have gotten at painting black marines.  Comments welcome!

Thank you very much Vash!  Your Deathwatch looks amazing so that is very high praise.

Two more battle brothers finished,  Flesh Tearer with a silly conversion I always liked no matter how silly it is and an Iron Hand.  Thanks for looking!

Thank you mate.

And your minis are great too. Small differences from our models. And I do like the boltguns appearance on yours over my own.

But I have done most of my army now. So a tad to late :)

Whatever conversion or colour scheme works and appeals to you, you should go for. In the end it's you who is going to play with the army and have to be satisfied with it.

But, with your level of painting skill and modeling skill, I would like to see the barrels drilled out :)

Keep up the good work.

@Vash

I'll be sure to look for a drill and give my marines some proper bolters soon.

Big update time!  Managed to do a lot the last few days.  I am especially proud how the yellow comes out on the shoulder pads since my first go around at yellow on black was quite awful.  Also the Howling Griffon was my first attempt at a half scheme.  I originally was going to play a 1000 point game tomorrow but some plans changed and instead am going to do a series of Kill Team instead.  The last couple pictures are the list I am bringing and I will put it up too.  I'll come back with reports afterwards if anyone is interested.  As always comments and critiques welcome!
