Brother Aiwass
So I want to take some daemon allies, but I really don't like GW daemons for this purpose. The theme: This army is intent is to represent a sorcerous cabal led by a powerful magician (count as Ahriman) and their minions, mostly cultists, so it would be really few space marine models. As this cult isn't worshiping the chaos gods, at least not directly, standard daemons doesn't in my vision. They'll be worshiping some lovecraftian gods/entities. The gods: Hastur (Tzeentch) Color: Yellow Cthugha (Khorne) Color: Ash Glaaki (Nurgle) Color: Blue Yig (Slaanesh) Color: Green So far I have sorted some conversions/ideas/count as: Bloodthirster: LotR Balrog GUO/Princemon: LotR Moria troll Horrors: Use the LotR nazguls, painted in yellow Tzerald on disc: The very old Heroquest chaos sorcerer, with a staff (paradox) riding a flying carpet (disc) Screamers: Metal bats/beasts of the WHFB Undead army. Plaguebearers: Old metal undead skeletons (rusted armour, rotten clothes) with the bones painted as if they're ghosts in a greenish pale grey. I also want to use the LotR Wargs but undecided if they're gonna be skullcrushers, chaos spawns, fiends of slaanesh or whatever? But I still need daemonettes, bloodletters, skullcrushers and everything that I can summon via the Daemonology - Malefic discipline, actually; so any help and ideas are very welcome. EDIT: I swapped the colors of Glaaki and Yig, because makes more sense that the serpents are green and water blue, and also breaks the stereotype of green = Nurgle. NOTE: I also have models (not all because of reasons) of the LotR basic box, Moria goblins with sword & shield, spear and archers who can (maybe?) make a nice alternative to nurglings, old metal bat swarms, metal snakes and plastic spiders/bats/rats who can be used aswell. Major_Gilbear
Since you're already mixing Warhammer and LOTR minis (which is a no-no for playing in GW), would you be adverse to including a few non-GW models? I ask as Reaper do a few rather decent Cthulu-style creatures, and there are lots of other companies that make some too. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326153-helpinspiration-welcome-for-daemon-conversionscount-as/#findComment-4511464 Share on other sites
Stercus
Have you considered using sylvaneth models? They look pretty demonic to me. RikuEru
Concerning the Balrog: If you have the newer plastic kit, you can easily attach the right hand with sword on the roght arm, and the right hand with the whip on the left arm. All it needs is to cut away the thumb and a bit of the fingers and a little green stuff work. Don't bother with too much detail, as it's the inner/underside of the hand no one will ever see. Slaanbull
I second the sylvaneth idea, loads of cool stuff there. I've used some of the LotR monsters as well for my projects, they look suitably demonic in a not standard Warhammer fashion. You might want to look at some of the tyranid models as well, atleast for parts, be careful though, they need a lot of work to not look like tyranids! There's also the upcoming Genestealer Cults, we should see something this saturday according to all the teasing there has been on facebook. There's also the river trolls, undead spirit models and morghast models that people have made some nice conversions with. Since you're already mixing Warhammer and LOTR minis (which is a no-no for playing in GW) It is? Major_Gilbear
Apparently, yes; it's one reason the models are deliberately a different scale. How rigorously enforced that is in your local GW store... I honestly couldn't say. Some less obvious things that are heavily-converted may also be acceptable or overlooked. Anyway, another model to consider for your project at is the fantasy Mutalith Vortex Beast - a big beastie with loads of face tentacles that is very Cthulu. There may also be some worthwhile parts to pilfer on the Tyranid Haruspex kit too. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326153-helpinspiration-welcome-for-daemon-conversionscount-as/#findComment-4512193 Share on other sites
Brother Aiwass
Thanks everyone. I've been looking through the sylvaneth range and there are definitely some nice models that can be used as slaaneshi daemons. Have to check yet the reaper minis range but I will. And about having problems playing at GW, well, I have no issues here, mostly because I live on an island and there is zero GW stores, so we play at home :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326153-helpinspiration-welcome-for-daemon-conversionscount-as/#findComment-4512215 Share on other sites
Major_Gilbear
Ah, well in that case I'd also recommend Fenris Games for more Cthulu miniatures! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326153-helpinspiration-welcome-for-daemon-conversionscount-as/#findComment-4512262 Share on other sites
Teetengee
Wargs might make for good flesh hounds. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326153-helpinspiration-welcome-for-daemon-conversionscount-as/#findComment-4512343 Share on other sites
Brother Aiwass
Yeah, I was thinking the mounted wargs to use as skullcrushers, but the unmounted ones would be nice flesh hounds.
