Bartali
I normally used Vallejo Surface Primer through an Airbrush to prime my models. It takes 24 hours to dry, and normally I'm fine with that. However, I'd quite like to get some models primed and then start painting after an hour or so. What are the fast drying primers ? Either airbrush or aerosol ? I seem to remember GW's aerosol drying fairly quickly ? Chaplain Raeven
I believe I use the Vallejo rattlecans. My mini's were 'dry' after 10 minutes, but prolonged contact with skin makes the paint pretty sticky. After finishing my models, I usually had to scrape the primer sides of the bases because the constant contact. Painting the base colour before handling prevented these problems. Major_Gilbear
Even if you use volatile solvent-based paints (like automotive primers in rattlecans), the paints still take about 24hrs to dry fully. At least with automotive primers though, if you leave them an hour or two and then give them a good hairdryer-ing for a couple of minutes, they are dry enough to paint on when the model cools down again. Nonetheless, I would still be vary wary of handling them too much, or of painting techniques like drybrushing though, as the primer really does still need to fully cure over a full day to acheive it's best toughness. old git
As usual in these threads I can't recommend Halfords primer highly enough (in the UK). It only comes in three colours - black, red and grey. However , it is very good. You get a proper matt finish, good opacity and a quick (10 - 15 minute) drying time. Tyberos the Red Wake
Army Painter dries in literally seconds if you just do light coats like you're supposed to and not soaking the miniature. It dries so fast that if you hold it too far away (10-12 inches, like other brands), the paint droplets dry mid-air and make your miniatures rough. You get white as well, and I saw a yellow there the other day too. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326320-quick-drying-primer/#findComment-4517060 Share on other sites
