The Gen 2 Raptors definitely ha. Maybe for an additional cost 'upgrade' the squad to first generation Raptors and give them the unique rule. That would help balance them out as they really are strictly better marines genetically. A freshly implanted newbie is depicted beating a veteran sergeant in hand to hand through sheer speed, reflex, and raw strength. They were also quite impetuous as well.

Second Generation Raptors are genetically unstable blahblabh Alpha Legion

Roll a d6 at the beginning of every controlling player turn after the first. On a 1 they mutate horribly. Toughness test or die. Those who survive become WS5 BS2 S5 T5 W2 I5 A3 Ld7 Sv4+ and gain rending and beasts(or maybe FnP instead) but do not count as scoring or friendly models to the rest of your army, and count as destroyed at the end. If they are embarked in a transport they must disembark ASAP. If they're in a stunlocked flyer they die.

 

First Generation Raptors +25 points, Unique, no mutation roll.

Mor Deythan are still better in the shooting department, but Raptors would be better in melee. Regular Vets would be budget versions of both. Man... regular Vets are so cheap and better than they were before it's ridiculous.

What do you guys think about a terminator breacher squad, for when terminator armour just isn't tough enough! I'm sure I've seen some artwork on here with this an idea before?

 

I'm thinking standard terminator profile but in addition equipped with melta bombs and boarding shield +10 above standard terminator cost per marine.

 

Options -

any terminator can upgrade their power weapon for a thunder hammer

any terminator can upgrade their combi bolter for a combi weapon or volkite charger

1 in 5 can take graviton gun/heavy flamer/plasma blaster.

Sergeant can take breaching charge or up to 3 phosphex bombs.

 

Transport options remain the same.

 

Special rule: (as terminators gain nothing from the increased invulnerable save of a boarding shield)

Shield wall - when all squad members in base contact add +1 to their invulnerable save.

 

Modelling wise, I think the Deathshroud terminators would work, their left hand is mostly free and their right arm positions may allow you to position the ranged weapon over the boarding shield.

True, I was going for more of a shooting focus rather than creating a close combat orientated unit (I see IF storm shield terminators more in the combat category). Perhaps only give the invulnerable bonus against shooting attacks? I'm tempted to make them just for the rule of cool!

I'd quite like to see a spin on recon (scout) armoured marines. Just because we haven't seen that yet.

And I'd also like to see more of the rabble rousing side of the Alpha Legion, so perhaps a recon armoured vet, let's say shotgun / grenade launcher combi weapon, leading a militia unit, and some enhanced 'look out sir'. Borrow some of that Genestealer Cult uprising vibe. Throw some demo charges around. Rise up.

 

I'd also like to explore a little xeno tech for the XX, plenty of hints they're happy to scavenge and we've seen a little of it with blackshield options. Perhaps recon armoured scouts with xeno sniper weapons - 36" S5 AP3 ignore cover on 5+

 

But that's fantasy from head-fluff.

I was kinda thinking along these lines the other day - Work backwards. What units don't have some kind of special version and what Legion do they apply to best?

 

Artillery is the big unit missing for me so a unique artillery crew for Iron Warriors? Probably Stor-Bezashk - no scatter and penalties to pinning/moral tests from their shots? I don't play much so rules aren't really my thing. The actual models would just be six fancy artillery crewman so you could upgrade a complete artillery tank squadron. A relatively easy one to convert up too.

 

You reminded me - the Iron warriors rhinos that can be made into a fortress. That would be cool.

That would work, or in the back. It kinda makes no sense to me that highly trained, genetically altered super soldiers are only able to assault out of a vehicle because of a ramp. I think its more likely that extra equipment could be added to decrease vulnerability while preparing to charge, such as additional smoke launchers or flashbang launchers to conceal friendlies/disorient enemies.

I think launching a big flashbang into an enemy squad and them taking their blind test would be enough to send a pack of raving lunatics sprinting at them.

Maybe a landspeeder storm equivalent to drop small a combat squad (I'm thinking Rampagers) right on top of the enemy?

It's been in my head since that scene in Betrayer where the WE hitch a ride to get into the fight. They don't care about protecting themselves, they just wanna get there fast.

I am not the biggest fan of the rampagers to be fair, just because of the limited options you get when you buy them. I like to play WYSIWYG, and I don't have a financially sound way to get 10(or even 5) meteor hammer wielding psychopaths. I do love the models though, I got one of the arms for the jetbike version of my praetor.

 

To go along with Betrayer, they could make exterior handles. They could up capacity to 20 and allow those on the exterior to fire pistols, and make them take a hit instead of the rhino on a 4+.
