Hail & well met fellow sons & daughters of Russ.

So we made it through the ETL relatively intact.

I was thinking as a way to build towards the Solstice advance and as a way of saying "good job" to each other for having the best ETL in years a small challenge would be in order.

I mentioned it before in the ETL thread, before it got closed down by Semper, that a frater (RikuEru) came to me with a unique idea and I figured that it deserved a bit of a roll-out.

For those who took part in the ETL, a wee exchange program might be in order...

What do you say that each of us make a Space Wolves banner bearer, which once complete we send on to a fellow ETL brother-in-arms?

This would be done in a secret Santa way, so who you send/receive from will be totally random.

So costs of shipping d not become astronomical we would endeavour to ensure that you would trade with someone fairly local geographically (Americas, Europe etc).

Plan is to get the model built and painted by around December 8th, so that it can be shipped before Christmas.

If you are up for it, let me know, so I can get a rough idea of the level of interest.

I will not arrange the secret Santa side of it until after the deadline, so that only those who managed to complete can send/receive to avoid disappointment.

I am in, I know a few others who were potentially interested also.

Let me know what you think

Color me involved but I feel pity for the person whose name is paired with mine... I a 'tabletop quality' at best guy.

So am I, but I am also very critical of myself. It's the fun/thought that counts.

That makes three of us lol.

But I'll be doing my best regardless.

I've already got the model bashed, ready to prime and paint.

There was no decision to be made.

To explain my input on why I had the idea:

I wanted something small and easily doable, something we can accomplish inbetween the hours we need for work/housework/family. We all have our daily duties.

I wanted something for "us" Wolves.

This subforum is cherished as a close, friendly, helpful brotherhood, no matter if you are a Long Fang or a fresh Blood Claw (and I've only been part of this for 2 years, but I'm so thankful) - so why not something to represent this in our homes?

So I had this idea. This way we get to include the banner bearer of a brother into OUR forces. A connection between Great Companies.

Because of that, I challenge, demand and believe that you should do the miniature in YOUR own style - from bits choice, to posing and painting.

...as is typical for Space Wolves I expect you to do your very best and push yourselves, aswell.

Enjoy your freedom. Blue or grey? What do you like? Is he a recruit of the glorious Great Crusade, a survivor of the Heresy commemorating a brutal victory or a brother from any other time period? Your choice! Want the banner or icon to be a skull of a large beast? Do so. Big freehanded design? Go on! Want to combine decals to a larger emblem? Do it.

Regular Marine Banner, a flag, an Icon, a collection of trophies? He's meant to represent your forces in a brother's mead halls - do it!

Feel free to "sign" your Banner Bearer under his base. Maybe add a little letter for your fellow brother, give your character a name and maybe a short honorful story. Anything YOU deem worthy.

This is NOT a competition to battle each other. It is meant to be a challenge to motivate each other!

[in coming years we could repeat this, with Wolf Guard Battle Leaders, Lone Wolves, Rune Priests, Wolf Priests or Iron Priests.]

...and on a more personal note:

Already chose my bits. Now I'll need to find a bit of time to work on it.

Dang it, now I'm genuinely EXCITED about this...

I have to say, from ETL 2015 Mactire had this thing where he would take volunteers from the forum and make a character based on their requests. He let me pick and in his honor I 'rebuilt' for myself the one he put together for me down to the B and C shoulder pad. It's one of my favorite models. It's never seen a game but it's MORE than just a Thunderhammer/Storm Shield in power armor, it's the 'Mactire Guy'.

This should be VERY cool!

P.S. I've got parts inbound already too :)

Got bored with the day off and bashed the banner together.

Took an old banner (WoC or Beastmen, I don't remember), added a banner pole from an undead kit, and a couple toppers from the SW kit. And here it is mocked up on the bearer (the reason he's green is because my 2 year old wanted to paint with me, and he chose green).

Here's the result of my tinkering the last couple nights. Might change afew things still. Unfortunately I don't have any real banner poles, so I've gotta live with the crappy one I came up with unsure.png

I should probably note that my wolves aren't conventional loyalists (even by Logan Grimnar's standards).

Is this supposed to be a legal Grey Hunter model?

If you ask me: No, not necessarily. Why?

Because something like THIS is what I had in mind:

... a counts as Ulrik (with fluff to back it up).

...or whatever you want to do!

...a Wolf Priest as an Icon Bearer?

...a weapons-blasting Long Fang defending a Relic of the Fang on a mountain top?

...a Lone Wolf as the last one of his Squad, or maybe even his (former) company, holding dear, the last thing that remains of it?

...a Wolf Guard on a Thunderwolf riding into the battlefield?

It's your Banner bearer. He's under your command (for now)!

Edit: Or something like this.

One GH may swap the Bolter or Bolt Pistol for a Power fist

One GH per detachment may take a Wolf Standard

LEGAL!

Which is good because that's what the old school metal SW Standard bearer has (power fist and banner)

While having a grey hunter for legality reasons would b cool,I would aso say the banner bearer can be whatever you want it to be.

I have a terminator bearing a banner, a biker bearing a banner and a TWC bearing a banner, as I see them more likely to be carrying their Jarls banner than anyone else.
