So GW dropped a bomb today ...

BLACK BLΠFLY

Recommended Posts

It's cool for 40k but until FW releases the Siege of Terra I don't see it having any impact for 30k.

Who knows. Black Library could demonize him earlier.

I think that if we have 30K rules but no model, plenty of people will use him. Maybe even if there is a FW model. Lot's of people won't wanna buy two versions.

I wanna buy two versions! :)

Well it could work even in the Great Crusade era. Even before the events of the novel A Thousand Sons he is the master of all of the cults of Prospero and his body was little more than a thin mortal skin containing his psychic essence. He could easily have used the arts of the Pavoni to re-shape his physical form or those of the Atheneans to change the perception of his form.

There's certainly canon precedent for it already:

"And in that instant, the City of Light, its silver towers and vast libraries and its Legion of Thousand Sons vanished from the face of Prospero, and the Imperium, forever. When Magnus and his Thousand Sons were seen again, it was above Istvaan V, fighting alongside Horus. Magnus had become a Daemon Prince of the Chaos god Tzeentch, Lord of Sorcery, and Changer of the Ways." ~ Index Astartes: Thousand Sons

Looks like they stripped him of his one remaining eye. Harsh, man, harsh.

I personally prefer the bulkier look to Magnus, as in his physical form, or the form he took when first robbed of his mortal body (a la Betrayer). The wiry Tzeentch look doesn't really suit him, and I love the pathos inherent in taking a daemonic form identical to the one he lost in an attempt to maintain and reclaim what he once had.

Not a bad model, and I think I'm suffering from an inherent dislike of daemons. Also I sort of miss the days when Calgar or Abbadon were the scariest things one could face on the battlefield. But then again I always have sought to be a grumpy old man a few decades early.

I see one central green eye in the middle of that hot mess that is his face.

Too high. That's his crown/helmet.

There are eyes, either side of his nose. Right where they should be. Might just look like a white dot if you're looking at a small pic.

Yeah after but it's not clear when.

Vodunius has the quote above where he's a daemon prince and fights at Istvaan. That's been retconned already though so who knows what else might change!?

Most of his appearences have been psychic projections. I think he still has a physical un-daemoned body at the moment though.

Pretty sure as it stands, he ascends when he makes the teleportation deal on Prospero. But he also shatters into multiple different warp entities/shards from the trauma, in kind of a troublesome ascension. It explains all his weird, conflicting appearances throughout the Heresy, such as in ScarsBetrayer, etc.

Then, post-Heresy in the Ahriman trilogy...

His shards plot against each other and manage to reunite into one complete Daemon Prince, even though there had been one playing itself off as the main Daemon Magnus on the Planet of the Sorcerers for quite a while already (and it possibly fully believed it was the only shard, who knows?). If he doesn't ascend the moment he whisks his sons off Prospero, there has to be something else that scatters all the shards around before the Heresy ends or maybe in the Scouring, and that doesn't quite add up. Maybe, though.

Right, thanks! Ahriman's on my to-read list but it's a long list. :)

In any case, Daemon Magnus should work for late-Heresy/Scouring and I'm sure most people wouldn't mind an opponent dropping him on the table for Great Crusade/Heresy as long as he uses FW rules when they're out.

Technically, didn't Magnus become a Daemon Prince after Prospero? I'm pretty sure when he's talking to Lorgar in Betrayer, he's already at least a quasi-Daemon Prince.

Russ broke his back batman style at the tragedy on Prospero, severing Magnus ties to the purely physical plane forever. I'd say he's been semi-daemonic since.

My impression was that Russ incapacitated Magnus, and at least partial daemonhood was part of the deal Magnus made to save his Legion before Russ could take his head off.
