Cessna
All this talk of new Sisters made me drag out my old books and models. I need to get working on my models if I want to have an army ready. I've been thinking of going with the Order of the Sacred Rose. White armor, black robes: http://redelf.narod.ru/p/as_cp_sr02.jpg This is how they looked in the old Sisters of Battle Codex. In the Witch Hunters book they went to white armor, black robes, black linings. But in Shield of Baal they've entirely got red robes... And when I look closely the white armored Sisters in the Witch Hinters Codex also had entirely red robes... Did I miss a fluff change here? Arkaniss
I can't remember the exact reason but it changed in some codex I think? Don't think it was fluff-wise but just how they were shown with painted models. Someone with a better memory will swoop in soon with the answer I'm sure! My OotSR have red robes as that's what I liked but you see both sorts. Major_Gilbear
The Order of Our Martyred Lady also had a changed paint scheme. I think it was a prosaic reason; to improve the overall look from an army standpoint, and not something fluff-related. Inquisitor Fox
I use the black robed Sisters of the Sacred Rose for my standard Battle Sisters/Dominions/Retributors, and red robed ones for my Seraphim and Celestians I paint the "interior" of the robes in the other color. My theory is that the standard issue robe is reversible and they just flip it when they get promoted to a division with an improved stat-line. WarriorFish
The red robes look better, but I seem to recall some lore an Order changing something to red in honour of some sacrifice but I can't remember any more. Can anyone shed more light on this? I'm not sure if it was robes or the OotSR but it rang a bell. Knight of the Raven
The Order of Our Martyred Lady' robes used to be black with a red lining like the model in your first picture. Most of the preceptories changed it to entirely red after getting slaughtered by the orks on Armageddon*. It's possible something similar happened to the Order of the Sacred Rose.Selena Agna's troops used black robes during the Kaurava campaign of the video game Soulstorm, in any case. *As shown here: From this picture: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326739-so-who-are-they-fluff-question/#findComment-4527882 Share on other sites

WarriorFish
Maybe if it were spelt Goodwin-Diaz? Raven has found the story, don't forget it's possible to do either - just depends on where in the timeline you are Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326739-so-who-are-they-fluff-question/#findComment-4527949 Share on other sites
Inquisitor Fox
Well Raven found a story about a different order (Our Martyred Lady is a different entity from Sacred Rose... different "Chapters" if you will) but the principle is the same. WarriorFish
Yes, that was the story I was talking about :) When you have two schemes both are official, so neither is wrong as long as you don't place yourself at the wrong time :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326739-so-who-are-they-fluff-question/#findComment-4527985 Share on other sites
A.T.
The white and red armour dates back to the WH codex, but the scheme itself was not shown as one of the core orders. I think the scheme was changed for Shield of Baal because GW didn't have enough models of any one existing scheme to field a credible force for the photos. If you look you can see an original white and black Sacred Rose immolator slipped in there as well. dracpanzer
The non martyred lady orders all changed their robe colors after armageddon. Mostly to red, but images being what they are, your figs and all, there are variations aplenty. Having done 4k of argent shroud sisters with white/red robes, I must admit that all my girls from the other big orders are in single color robes. Sacred Rose I went with black. Ebon Chalice white. Valorous Heart and Bloody Rose black. Martyred Lady red. To each their own. Knight of the Raven
Whitescar just completed a Sacred Rose army, in case you wanted to see what an entire army of white-armored, red-robed sisters looked like. Oh, that's VERY nice... I still can't decide how to paint mine.
