Ideas for building an armory diorama?

Brothers-

Over the last few years I have magnetized quite a few weapons, jump packs, turrets, and other items of the armory.  Currently, they sit on a shelf on my desk.

I would like to build a diorama where I can magnetize and hang these items and display them, like you would see in a chapter's armory.  I have absolutely no idea how to build such a thing, and my searching has failed me.

Anyone have any ideas, or ever seen anything like this?  Thank you.

Well, I haven't seen anybody else try that, so I think you're gonna need to pioneer this one, brother.

Personally, If I were in your shoes, I would start with the GW imperial Sector buildings. The sections of the buildings can be cut into perfect tiles, with skulled arches, chains, and all sorts of cool details, with lots of room to hide the opposing magnets. You can even just buy specific sections of tiles off of ebay, to save some cash, and to make the stretched out diorama look more uniform

Also, it might be cool to look around your local hobby train store, and try to find a handful of short romanesqe pillars, which you can place centered on one of the floor tiles, and rest helms, weapons, and the like.

Just some random ideas off my head, man. Use or discard at your pleasure.  :)

I would look into using textured plasticard with detailing taken from scenery kits. This way you get detail, but also have the freedom to make bigger racks/walls/gantries as required.

For the mounting of the parts on the walls/racks, I'd suggest trying to get some strip rails in mild steel that can be painted up and have the parts attached as required - you can get small strips easily enough online if you search through railway hobby shops and the like.
